Musings on the Week

January 2, 2016

Hope - “My dream is of a place and time where America once again be seen as the last best hope of earth.” Abraham Lincoln.

Politics – Liberalism is not built on the world the way that it is, but the way liberals think it should be, which is why all their programs fail, and all their “facts” are wrong.

Politics – Obama began his Presidency with a global American “Apology Tour and now he plans to finish his Presidency with a global Lame Duck “Delusion Tour.”

Politics – The Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter movements are both based on false narratives, infiltrated by anarchists, and adopted by extreme elitists in the Democrat Party

Politics – One of Barack Obama’s most important legacies has been his ability to cover-up and avoid prosecution of more political scandals than any previous administration.

Politics – The Democrat urban legacy is one that shrinks big cities, steals jobs, underfunds pensions, increases taxes, destroys economies, increases crime and drives families away.

Politics – “Democratic socialism” is a contradiction in terms, because specific economic, healthcare, and education decisions can’t be made by you and for you, at the same time!

Politics- A Constitutional convention is proposed to add new amendments, but the present administration would not respect new ones because they don’t even respect the old ones.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the economy, ObamaCare, and terrorism: campus speech safe zones and Argentina return to free market capitalism.

Politics – Hillary Clinton epitomizes everything bad about politics: untrustworthy, self-centered, no private sector experience, and an exaggerated sense of entitlement.

Politics – FBI has found probable cause that Hillary Clinton violated two federal statutes (18 USC 793 & 18 USC 1924) governing handling of classified material; General Petraeus pleaded guilty to the latter charge, and his actions were not as extensive, nor as provable.

Politics - Rasmussen polled active duty and retired military members and found only 15% had a favorable opinion of Hillary Clinton, and 81% viewed her unfavorably.

Politics – Donald Trump, with all his bluster, declarations of political invincibility, and “crazy” ideas is the one least likely to defeat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 general election.

Politics – Conservatives learned from the campaigns of 2008 and 2012 not to compromise on core conservative values by nominating a moderate, so overwhelming support for Ted Cruz.

Peace - “If we are to have peace on earth… our loyalties must transcend our race, our tribe, our class, and our nation; and this means we must develop a world perspective.” Martin Luther King.

Economy – Republican control of Congress boosted job growth for Obama, whereas the Democrat takeover of Congress led to bad results during the Bush years.

Jobs – The percentage of Americans who either had jobs or were looking for one continued its steady drop, descending to levels (62.5%) not seen since the late 1970s.

Income – Income inequality is actually good and an indicator of a healthy economy, as long as income mobility is unimpeded, because it acts as an incentive for income growth.

Immigration – There were 10,588 unaccompanied aliens under 17 caught at the southern border last year, a 106% increase, and the number of illegal families increased by 173%.

Energy – The Abengoa bankruptcy may become the new post child for the largest failure of the DOE green loan program to date, with losses four times larger than Solyndra.

Environment – Fracking, not government green policies, caused carbon dioxide emissions to drop sharply in 47 states and Washington, D.C. in 2015.

Environment – Climate models used by scientists to predict how much human activities will warm the planet have been over-predicting global warming for the last six decades.

Environment – The Paris climate agreement represents a triumph of wishes over facts: national voluntary promises; not required to reach goals; no penalty for non-compliance

Healthcare – ObamaCare provided in 2014 nearly $10 billion in corporate welfare subsidies to insurance companies, as well as $18.5 billion in premium subsidies for low income people

Education – The secret of success for Jewish and Asian children in school is parents who set high standards, insist on hard work, oversee homework and hold responsible for results.

Crime – The Ferguson effect is alive and well in 25 of the nation’s largest cities with homicides growing at 11%, such as Baltimore recording the highest homicide rate in its history

Crime – The next phase of leftist anarchy erupting across our fine nation is black mob violence and riots infesting shopping malls near you!

Hope - “The anchor in our world today is freedom, holding us steady in times of change, a symbol of hope to all the world.” George H. W. Bush.

Foreign Policy – The IRS can revoke the passports of Americans who are in tax arrears, but Americans travelling overseas to fight with ISIS can return home safely with passports in hand.

GWOT – It has been 15 years since 9/11 and we have still not implemented the 9/11 Commission’s key recommendation to secure our driver’s licenses.

United Nations – American taxpayers will be liable for more than one-fifth of the UN’s regular budget next year, as well as more than one-quarter of the peacekeeping budget ($2.96 B).
