Musings on the Week

January 16, 2016

Socialism - “Socialists cry 'Power to the people', and raise the clenched fist as they say it. We all know what they really mean - power over people, power to the State.” Margaret Thatcher.

Politics – President Obama's last State of the Union address was filled with regrets and disappointments that he hadn't been able to sell his liberal (politics and policy) agenda to the American people” and “instead, under his presidency, he lost Democrat control of the House and Senate, and the bulk of the nation's governorships and state legislatures.”

Politics – Progressivism is collective statism in quest of an egalitarian utopia, where the elites think they know better how to run our lives, if given expanded power, than “we the people”.

Politics – Gallup found the continued rise of independents (42%), indicating a pervasive disaffection with the system and the unpredictable nature of the presidential cycle.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the economy, ObamaCare, and terrorism: Oregon Bureau of Land Management protest and recapture of Mexican drug lord, El Chapo.

Politics – Hillary Clinton’s economic policies are closer to socialist Bernie Sanders, than Bill Clinton’s, since she opposes everything Bill signed into law or benefited from in the 1990s.

Politics – The State Department IG reports that 177 of the 240 FOIA requests lodged against Hillary Clinton are still pending, even though federal law requires response within 20 days.

Politics – The latest State Department email dump included proof that Hillary Clinton committed a felony bypassing national security laws because they were inconvenient.

Politics – Hillary Clinton is for sale, paid either indirectly or laundered through her non-profit: pay for over-priced speeches from Bill, or contribute to the Clinton Foundation “charity.”

Politics – Ted Cruz is the first politician in a long time whose actions deliver on his promises, which does not make him popular in Congress, but does make him true to his constituents.

Media – Contrary to the media narrative, Gallup found that Ted Cruz is ahead of all the other Republican candidates in likeability, which measures favorability minus unfavorability ratings.

Socialism - “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.” Winston Churchill.

Economy – Economists describe Obama’s economic performance as easily the longest recession and recovery since the Great Depression in the 1930s.

Economy – Nationwide, only 214 counties of 3,069 had recovered to prerecession levels on four indicators: total employment, unemployment rate, size of economy and home values.

Finance – Quantitative Easing added $3.7 trillion to the Fed’s balance sheet which jolted the stock market, but now a quarter point rate hike caused the market to tumble over 7%.

Energy – Oil fracking is an example of a “disruptive innovation” that caused capitalist creative destruction making oil abundant and undermining the power of industry cartels .

Immigration – Since 2014, 113 refugees, many already identified as immigrants, have been implicated in terrorist plots stoking further concerns about flaws in the U.S. screening process.

Civil Rights – Harvard Business Review (HBR) has concluded that diversity policies are not making companies more fair and if anything, are actually increasing threats to minorities.

Sexuality – When DNA is tested it will tell no lies, because no amount of clothing, makeup, haircuts, hormones or surgeries can change the outcome of someone’s DNA testing.

Socialism - “We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions.” Adolf Hitler.

GWOT – Barack Obama epitomizes “Stuck on Stupid as he releases another four terrorist detainees from Guantanamo, who will rapidly re-join the attacks on the United States.

GWOT – The Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates invented the term “Islamophobia despite no evidence of widespread violence or systemic organized discrimination against Muslims.

Israel – Palestine” was defined for the Jews as land west of the Jordan River by the League of Nations mandate, and Article 80 of Chapter XII of UN Charter honors that agreement.
