Musings on the Week

Musings on the Week

January 23, 2016

Honesty - “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” Thomas Jefferson.

Politics – President Obama’s rhetoric is wildly out of step with his performance,  which is why people like to listen to him but don’t believe a word he says.

Politics – Obama’s only long-lasting legacy will be that he was the first black President, because everything else he accomplished has been over promised and under-delivered.

Politics – The President’s legacy is largely made up of regulations, executive actions, and executive agreements that can be easily overturned by the next administration.

Scandals – Barack Obama’s legacy has been his ability to cover-up multiple scandals with continuous delay, obfuscation and never holding anyone personally accountable.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the economy, ObamaCare, and terrorism: stock market collapse and drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, recapture.

Politics – Gen. David Petraeus was convicted on security violations, now faces retroactive demotion, so for punishment equity, Hillary Clinton should be “drawn and quartered!”

Politics – Like her husband, Bill, Hillary Clinton is clearly guilty of at least one felony, but will never be prosecuted while the political elites protect her from receiving any punishment.

Politics – Hillary Clinton’s collapsing campaign is retreating into paranoia and conspiracy theories, accusing attackers of being members of the mythical Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

Politics – It is conceivable that Hillary Clinton will lose any number of primaries and still clinch the Democrat nomination, based on decades of political favors owed and delivered.

Politics – The political flirtation period is over, and the Republican Party is left with three, maybe four, candidates: Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and maybe Jeb Bush.

Politics – It is sad that the Tea Party movement has withered away and the last Tea Party candidate is Ted Cruz, who is principle driven, so is disliked by fellow Senators – high praise!

Politics – Even though I believe Donald Trump is not the best Republican candidate, I could vote for him since he is better for the country than ANY Democrat progressive alternative.

Honesty - “All men profess honesty as long as they can. To believe all men honest would be folly. To believe none so is something worse.” John Quincy Adams.

Economy –The Obama economy is a “house of cards” built on a Qualitative Easing inflated stock market, centrally managed banks, and an ever-increasing federal government.

Finance – The new Fed Total Loss-Absorbing Capacity regulation ensures the survival and growth of "Too-Big-To-Fail" institutions and sets the stage for future taxpayer bailouts.

Deficit – Obama lowered the budget deficit over the last several years, but neglects to say that he is lowering it from the record highs he set himself, and is still one of the eight highest.

Deficit – The CBO reports that the federal budget deficit is back on the rise, by $105 billion this year, and returning to trillion-dollar deficits expected to return in 2022 vs.2025 last August.

Income – Walmart raised its minimum wage, in February 2015, and, as predicted, prices rose, sales dropped, employment rolls contracted and now 154 stores are closing.

Taxes – Businesses are voting with their feet in Connecticut abandoning the high-tax, high regulation, anti-business policies that has accelerated the state’s economic downfall.

Energy - Opening our federal lands and waters to oil, gas, and coal leasing would increase economic growth, wages, jobs, and federal, state, and local tax revenues.

Energy – After spending billions subsidizing solar and wind, the share or our energy that comes from renewable is the same as it was when Obama took office.

Environment – Climate changes continuously driven by daily weather cycles, monthly lunar cycles, yearly seasonal cycles, decades long solar cycles, and centuries long glacial cycles.

Healthcare – UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, and Humana  have all reported huge losses selling ObamaCare plans and will likely abandon ObamaCare altogether at the end of 2016.

Education – The University of Missouri appeased the racial protestors and is now lamenting the sudden drop-off in student applications, 5% undergraduate drop and 19% graduate.

Crime – The fact is that police officers in our nation’s cities work in an environment where a disproportionate percentage of street crime is committed by young African-American men.

Honesty - “Trust, but verify.” Ronald Reagan.

Libya – The Islamic State is exploiting the civil war in Libya, consolidating control between Tripoli and Benghazi, attempting to take over oil fields, and launching jihadist attacks.
