Musings on the Week
Return to Common Sense
January 26, 2013
Democracy – “It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.” Winston Churchill.
Politics – Obama’s Inauguration speech was an unapologetic defense of liberal, activist government, and reiterated his divisive and partisan approach to “compromise.”
Politics – Democrats have been successful overwhelming Republicans with domestic “crisis” after “crisis” to distract from their abysmal economic record and foreign policy failures.
Politics – Michelle Obama launched a community organizing project “Organizing for Action,” the American version of the Department of Agitation and Propaganda.
Politics – Based on the content in the Inauguration speech, the best thing Republicans can do is to limit the damage by collectively rejecting one bad Progressive idea after another.
Politics – There are many conservative spokesmen, such as Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, or Paul Ryan who will emphasize core conservative principles.
Politics – Republicans may have painted themselves into a corner by promising real budget cuts that, unless they are delivered, may cost them multiple House seats in the 2014 election.
Politics – I expect the TEA Party movement to re-emerge as the new taxes and regulations hit, and the “second half” of our 2008 recession hits full force (as if it ever really stopped).
Media – The MSM downfall has already begun, but I expect this avalanche to continue after Newsweek with layoffs at the New York Times and the Washington Post.
Taxes – “We contend that for a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.” Winston Churchill.
Economy –Obama has run up trillion-dollar deficits, piled on $6 trillion in debt, spent $800 billion on phony "stimulus," while hitting businesses with $518 billion in new regulations.
Jobs – Obama has failed on jobs, with unemployment stuck around 8%, a Jobs Council that hasn’t even met in over a year, and new regulations and taxes stifling new job creation.
Labor – Union density in the American workplace fell to another new post–World War II low of 11.3% in 2012, with private-sector union membership falling to 6.6%.
Debt – In an ideal world, if Congress refused to raise the debt limit, it would automatically force a balanced budget and real reductions in the burden of government spending.
Debt – The debt ceiling deal is another postponement not addressing any of the underlying root causes, but requiring the Senate to finally do their budget job and shirking for 4 years.
Crime – If gun violence is the issue, then the most effective technique to address this crime problem is swift and sure enforcement and punishment removing criminals from society.
Housing – The Obama administration never understood the root causes of the housing collapse, and is now re-energizing the worst culprit, the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act.
Gun Control – If you believe that guns cause gun violence and must be controlled, then you also must believe that keyboards cause misspelled words and silverware causes obesity.
Gun Control – Obama’s 23 gun control measures won’t do anything to stop gun violence, but it does provide a façade implying Congress did “something,” just nothing effective.
Family – Liberals are waging a secret War on Children, with abortion being pro-mother, anti-father, and anti-children, and divorce being pro-mother, anti-family, and anti-children.
Justice – Obama is hiding his complicity in the Fast and Furious gun-running debacle behind executive privilege, but meanwhile Eric Holder should be impeached for dereliction of duty.
Environment – Ken Salazar is stepping down just in time to avoid the scandal of firing or reassigning government scientists who question scientific proof for administration actions.
Environment – Obama’s Inauguration speech promised his continued commitment to the environment hoax of climate warming as another tool to expand the size of government.
Deficit – I expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.
Housing – I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.
Appeasement – “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile – hoping it will eat him last.” Winston Churchill.
GWOT – Contrary to the President’s claims of al Qaeda being decimated, the resurgence of al Qaeda in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, Mali, etc. are all too visible and growing.
Defense – Panetta authorized women in combat to placate feminist’s insatiable drive for absolute official equality between the sexes, as long as women accept the consequences.
Libya – The Benghazi study whitewashed the security failure by Clinton prior to attack, abandonment by Panetta during the attack, and cover-up by Obama after the attack.
Libya – Will we ever learn who denied requests for additional security, who told the military to stand down and not help, and who created and nurtured the false media narrative?
Israel – I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then re-annexing Gaza based on defensible borders and 1920 San Remo Conference.
Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists, and Obama will talk a lot, but stand aside and refuse to help defend this longtime ally.
Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea, and Obama will be “unable” to support our troops and will negotiate for a stalemate.
