Musings on the Week
Musings on the Week
January 30, 2016
Truth - “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic, and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all its power to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Joseph Goebbels.
Politics – AP found that 60% of people have little or no confidence in the federal government to solve the major problems facing the nation, which favors limited government Republicans.
Politics - This week’s distractions from the economy, ObamaCare, and terrorism: Oregon wildlife refuge shootout and Chinese stock market collapse.
Politics – Depending on the speed of the FBI investigation and trial, the Republican candidate may be running against a convicted or pardoned felon, Hillary Clinton.
Politics – As Hillary Clinton’s campaign melts down and Bernie Sanders’ socialist ideas flop, Democrats are considering a last minute “Hail Mary” ticket: Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren.
Politics – I like Donald Trump’s rejection of political correctness and I charitably call him a Republican, but Donald Trump does not belong in the same sentence as “conservative.”
Politics – Donald Trump is a consummate salesman, in a world where nobody actually trusts political candidates, and he is selling the American people a political enema.
Politics – Donald Trump is too much like a Prima Donna preferring to boycott the debate rather than address the issue with the debate moderators - not a good leadership trait!
Politics – Ted Cruz is, to borrow Margaret Thatcher’s term, a conviction politician, less interested in making a deal in politics and more interested in making a difference!
Media – I’m ready for voting to begin in first primaries, so people can decide based on real history vs. the media narrative that tells the voters what is important and for whom to vote.
Media – Fox News is the most reliable place to go for news coverage, but viewers have beome increasingly untrusting of Fox News when it comes to political analysis.
Truth - “In the time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” George Orwell.
Economy – Recessions have occurred when several indicators turn negative: Industrial production falls, corporate profits drop, and the U.S. stock market declines – like today!
Debt – It took Obama seven years to accumulate nearly the amount of debt that the previous 43 Presidents had accrued over a 220-year period.
Deficit – Obama gave us deficits over $1 trillion every year for his first term, and now has the gall to claim temporarily cutting deficits to less than $500 billion as an accomplishment.
Immigration – The immigrants who came to America in the past knew they had to work to survive, since the generous safety net programs protect immigrants from failure.
Energy – Environmental groups have discovered that when you add in the emissions from growing, shipping and processing the corn, ethanol creates more pollution than oil.
Environment – Climate change hazards are overwhelmingly natural problems, and should be dealt with by preparing for them in advance, and adapting to them when they occur.
Environment – Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant, but rather a trace gas (400 ppm) essential for photosynthesis and rising CO2 levels increases crop, forest, and grassland growth.
Gun Control – Every public shooting since at least since 1950 in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry guns.
Education – Various campus affiliates of Black Lives Matter now demand “safe spaces” which are a surreal self-segregation into ghettos where no dissent or diversity is permitted.
Civil Rights – The violence and racial animus enabled by the Obama administration stoked the fires of Ferguson and Baltimore, making villains of our law enforcement officers.
Abortion – The Center for Medical Progress videos show Planned Parenthood participating in a widespread and organized violation of state and federal laws forbidding partial birth abortions and profiteering from the sale of fetal organs and tissues.
Truth - “In our country the lie has become not just a moral category but a pillar of State.” Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
GWOT – In 2015, 450 out of 452 suicide terror attacks were perpetrated by Muslims and carried out in the name of Allah, so the Global War on Terror focuses on Islamic jihadists.
Military – The biggest waste in the defense department budget is the mandated use of biofuels, which cost at least ten times that of normal fuel and is not readily available globally.
Cuba – Cuba is one of the most socialist counties in the world, with the average government worker earning each month less than what the average American makes per hour.
