Musings on the Week
Musings on the Week
January 31, 2015
Opportunity - “It turns out that advancing equal opportunity and economic empowerment is both morally right and good economics.” William J. Clinton.
Politics – Obama’s legacy was set on Inauguration Day when he became the first African American President, but everything since has been a disappointment, distortion, or a lie.
Politics – Leadership makes a difference: in the first three weeks of the new Republican lead Senate, 25 proposed amendments went to floor votes, more than in all of 2014.
Politics - This week’s distractions from the stagnant economy and ObamaCare: proposal to tax college savings plans and Cuban demands for diplomatic normalization.
Politics – Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, and Nancy Pelosi are the mythical Democrat version of the three old witches in Macbeth prophesizing doom and gloom at every turn.
Politics – My conservative Dream Team would be Scott Walker for President and Ted Cruz for Vice President, delivering a combination of executive leadership and conservative principle.
Politics – Republicans in Name Only (RINOs) are charismatic politicians, who are disastrous as Presidents, but outstanding as principled department and agency heads to lead change.
Opportunity - “The American free market system is the greatest engine for prosperity and opportunity that the world has ever seen. Freedom works.” Ted Cruz.
Economy – If Obama really believed in his middle-class economics, why did he not introduce his programs in 2009 when Democrats controlled both houses of Congress?
Economy – America must learn from Greece’s collapse of their socialism politics, before our Democrat-run basket case state governments demand their own huge federal bailouts.
Deficit – The new CBO report shows over the next decade that tax revenues will stay flat at about 18% of GDP, while spending, driven by entitlements, will rise to more than 22% of GDP.
Labor – The percentage of union members among workers nationwide dropped to a new low of 11.1% in 2014, extending a decades-long decline for the labor movement.
Jobs – Texas is responsible for a 1.4 million job increase since 2007, out of a U.S. 1.2million net increase, broadly based across different sector and industries.
Healthcare – The CBO reports that ObamaCare will be far more disruptive to the employer-based insurance market, while being far less effective at cutting the ranks of the uninsured.
Housing – Federally guaranteed mortgages are now nearly as risky as they were before the financial crisis, including loans guaranteed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and the VA.
Transportation – Electric cars are being built because governments are mandating that auto manufacturers build and sell electric vehicles, but consumers won’t buy these high-cost cars.
Energy – Europe wasted $140 billion on mismanaged green (wind and solar) projects to build renewable power plants where they were not sustainable nor cost justified.
Energy – While claiming credit for increased oil production, Obama is trying to designate 12 million acres of ANWR as wilderness, so he can halt any further oil production in this area.
Energy – After wasting billions in subsidies, environmentalists are realizing that biofuels are not very efficient, emitting more CO2 than the same amount of generated energy.
Environment – Methane leakage is the latest environment bogeyman called a “potent” pollutant because it is a fracking byproduct, the real target of further EPA regulation.
Education – Currently, college have very little skin in the game because they are pre-paid for attendance and are not measured whether the student ever graduates or even gets a job.
Family – Traditional families are based on extended networks of trust and goodwill, while “fake” government families are based on regulations, fees, subsidies, and checklists.
Marriage – Marriage is the God-ordained, lifelong union between man and woman designed to provide optimal stability and overall well-being for procreation and nurture
Abortion – Partial birth abortion is a medical technique used in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, with the goal of delivering a fetus that is not alive.
Abortion – For every adoption referral and prenatal care visit the abortion giant claimed credit for, the taxpayer funded Planned Parenthood committed 174 abortions.
Opportunity - “The opportunity to secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.” Sun Tzu.
Defense – The United States will always be at foreign policy risk as long as the military has a budget-driven strategy instead of a strategy-driven budget.
Military – The Army has already charged Bowe Bergdahl with desertion but has been unable to pursue the normal court martial processes due to White House command influence.
GWOT – “No-go Zones” facts: France has 751 “Sensitive Urban Zones,” Britain has 85 Sharia Courts in operation, and the Dutch listed 40 “no-go” zones in the Netherlands.
Israel – The White House has sent five Obama campaign operatives to lead a campaign to defeat Prime Minister Netanyahu in upcoming national elections.
