Musings on the Week
February 15, 2014
Media – “If you don’t read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed.” Mark Twain.
Politics – Conservatives always thought that workers have the right to quit work to work elsewhere, but liberals think we should subsidize worker’s decision not to work.
Politics – Conservatives limit government intervention to encourage the pursuit of the American Dream, but liberals penalize entrepreneurship with excess regulation and taxation.
Politics – In 2006, Senator Obama criticized the President for raising the debt ceiling as a sign of leadership failure, but now he sees no problem raising it a third time in of a year.
Politics – In 2008, Candidate Obama criticized the President for increasing the power of the Executive branch bypassing Congress, but now he brags he’s “got a pen and the phone.”
Politics – Obama has perfected the art of blame shifting, never accepting responsibility for any of his mistakes, even blaming Fox News for covering the Benghazi and IRS scandals.
Politics – There appears to be no smidgen of the IRS case that is not tainted by corruption: from the conspiracy to undermine the free-speech rights of Obama opponents, through the Justice Department’s strategic selection of a heavy Obama-campaign donor to conduct an “investigation” in which there was little apparent interest in questioning witnesses, on up to the current effort to institutionalize the very misconduct that the President and his Attorney General once told us was “intolerable,” “inexcusable,” “outrageous,” and “unacceptable.”
Politics – The House Ways and Means Committee IRS investigation found that 100% of the tax-exempt groups that were flagged and targeted with an audit were right-leaning.
Politics – The CBO report on ObamaCare unveiled the Democrat “War on Work” defining the predicted decline in American work hours as a boon to worker freedom and family values.
Politics – The Socialist Party of America released the names of 70 Democrat members of Congress who are members of their caucus – No surprise who controls today’s Democrats!
Politics – Hillary Clinton will run as the inevitable “First Female President,” but voting historic firsts has proven disastrous when competence, or lack thereof, is a critical success factor.
Politics – This week’s distractions from the stagnant economy and ObamaCare: extending unemployment benefits create jobs (?) and unacceptable Palestinian two-state blueprint.
Politics – Tea Party activists have spoken and Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Ben Carson, and Scott Walker are their top four choices for President in 2016 – Tea Party sure doesn’t look racist!
Politics – Tea Party activists also identified their least favorite candidates for President in 2016 as Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, Jon Huntsman, and Kelly Ayotte – No moderates for the Tea Party!
Language – The new leftist strategy to attack free-market capitalism is to call it the Orwellian term of neo-liberalism, in order keep it vague and rhetorical to hide its true political target.
Taxes – “I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.” Winston Churchill.
Finance – During both QE2 and QE3, the performance of the economy was inversely correlated with the amount of quantitative easing done by the Fed, just making it worse.
Debt – If the debt ceiling legislation will no longer be used to inject fiscal discipline into the federal spending negotiations, then it is time to repeal the debt ceiling altogether.
Jobs – In 2008, there were 122 million full-time jobs in America, and now 4 1/2 years after its end, there are still just 118 million full-time jobs despite a labor force that is 1.6 million larger.
Healthcare – Insurance is a betting pool, where the winner is actually the loser, since winning means you get something you don’t want and then get compensated for your bad luck.
Healthcare – The ObamaCare implementation strategy has been simple: to frontload the benefits and to postpone (repeatedly) the pain and costs for as long as possible.
Healthcare – Despite the ObamaCare website debacle and the millions of people who lost their health insurance or doctors, no one in the Obama administration has been fired.
Healthcare – The ObamaCare implementation has been a disaster requiring ObamaCare to be delayed 28 times and counting, with some provisions delayed more than once.
Immigration – Republicans do not trust the President to enforce any immigration law they pass, since he has a history of simply not enforce provisions of laws that he doesn’t like.
Environment – The climate is always changing, but never the liberal appetite for spending money in futile attempts to change the unchangeable, as “settled facts” must be updated.
Environment – Al Gore has revealed himself as a true leftist, advocating Malthusian population control to save Gaia Earth through fertility management in the new world order.
Family – The poverty rate among blacks is 35% and 13% among whites, illegitimacy is 72% for blacks and 30% for whites, while poverty for black families is 8% and 5% for whites families.
Welfare – America has become a nation of dependency and poverty of the spirit, with people making unwise choices and leading pathological lives abetted by the welfare state.
Welfare – Obama claimed he has not “expanded the welfare state” despite a 50% increase in food stamp usage and 92 million Americans are not in the workforce and can’t find work.
Marriage – Eric Holder has decided that gay marriages must be recognized in all States, regardless of their State laws, yet he refuses to enforce the national Defense of Marriage Act.
Foreign Aid – “Foreign aid might be defined as a transfer of money from poor people in rich countries to rich people in poor countries.” Douglas Case.
Libya – As more and more is learned about the Benghazi attack, there is increased demand for someone to be held accountable for the abandonment of the Americans under attack.
Iran – Despite Kerry’s claims to the contrary, Iran has made it clear that it will dismantle nothing and
that it will go on developing ballistic missiles and nuclear technology.
