Musings on the Week

March 24, 2018

Honesty – “The pure and simple truth is rarely pure and never simple.” Oscar Wilde.

Politics – Democrats have become the party of victimhood and entitlements, appealing mostly to wealthy coastal elites and victims of generational poverty inflicted at the hands of government “generosity,” basically people who can be counted on to vote the way leftists want them to vote to gain a permanent grip on the levers of power.

Politics – Democrats hijacked the civil rights movement transforming it into a cult of revenge, lies and deception polarizing the nation along racial lines for selfish political gains creating perception of evil racist white Americans, so blacks only hope is to always vote Democrat.

Politics – Staff turnover is a good thing for Trump if he wants to achieve his promises and vision, so it’s better to correct mistakes early rather than stick with poor choices too long.

Politics –Mueller as invited to conduct a fishing expedition, a boundless quest to hunt for undiscovered crimes, rather than an investigation and prosecution of known crimes.

Politics – The best part of the Russia-election probe is that deep state government officials (FBI, DOJ, IRS, etc.) who broke the law may finally be held accountable.

Media – Americans are losing faith in the liberal mainstream media for good reason: obvious bias, story selection to support a partisan narrative, and unrelenting fake news.

Culture – Professors Amy Wax and Larry Alexander have been attacked for defining American values and their erosion being the root of many of today’s issues:

Get married before you have children and strive to stay married for their sake. Get the education you need for gainful employment, work hard, and avoid idleness. Go the extra mile for your employer or client. Be a patriot, ready to serve the country. Be neighborly, civic-minded, and charitable. Avoid coarse language in public. Be respectful of authority. Eschew substance abuse and crime.”

Culture – The Bishops of the Catholic Church issued a formal letter in defense of traditional values, in opposition to abortion, same-sex marriage, transgenderism, and LGBTQ agenda.

Government – “A government that robs from Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul."  George Bernard Shaw.

Jobs – Unemployment is at record lows including minorities, because people are going back to work not just dropping off the unemployment rolls and the Workforce Participation is rising.

Budget – I hope President Trump vetoes the omnibus spending bill because it opened the floodgates of federal spending, funding every leftwing program and project imaginable but missing the priorities that Trump promised the American voters who sent him to Washington.

Taxes – If we can migrate to a flat fair tax, and eliminate all exemptions and all deductions, the rate should be 10%, like Confucius to Hebrew tithe and Christian tithe to Andrew Mellon.

Healthcare – The tsunami on the horizon is the increasing costs states must pay for expanded Medicaid under ObamaCare that will increase as federal share of costs decrease.

Gun Control – The job of a business is to make or sell products and services people want, but when they scapegoat and alienate half their customers, there are adverse consequences.

Gun Control – At Great Mills HS in Maryland the solution to school security was demonstrated when an armed school resource officer confronted the shooter and eliminated the threat.

Civil Rights – Nation of Islam is a racist, anti-Semitic, sexist, and homophobic hate group that blacks refuse to disavow, while whites are expected to disavow the KKK with a same resume.

Civil Rights – Affirmative action, quotas, and “inclusion riders” are all ways to institutionalize discrimination to rectify a cultural problem that cannot be fixed by government actions.

Sports – “Transitioning from male to female” does not make a man into a woman, but men who “transitioned” into “woman” will now corrupt all female sports records.

Sports – Feminists will take egalitarianism to its logical conclusion by demanding elimination of differentiation between men and women in sports, and women are unable to compete.

International Relations – “The world’s a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed."  Sean O’Casey.

Trade – The biggest lie of all is that free trade ever existed, when European nations impose a value-added (VAT), a tariff by another name, as high as 27% on U.S. imports.

Europe – The new term for the legions of "refugees" from Africa and the Middle East flooding into western Europe is "asylum spoofers," as only a handful are genuinely seeking asylum from anything other than their own cultural dysfunction and murderous ineptitude.
