Musings on the Week
March 25, 2017
Government – “A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.” George Bernard Shaw.
Politics – Congressional hearings confirmed that last July people acting on the authority of Obama opened an investigation into Trump’s campaign, then criminally leaked to the press.
Politics – Rewarding Chelsea Clinton with board directorships and book deals is an example of Democrats throwing good money after bad Clinton money, with no return on investments.
Media – The best thing Donald trump has done is to not let the mainstream media set the narrative on the political agenda, calling out their lies on Twitter as soon as they appear.
Media – Brainwashing via subliminal messaging is illegal, but the Mainstream Media is overwhelming people with misinformation, misdirection, lies, innuendos, and false premises.
Media – Outside the beltway the pollsters are missing the mark again, because the American people approve of the President fulfilling promises and economic confidence is increasing, while Democrats and the media believe its own delusional, conspiracy-based fake news.
Taxes – “I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.” Winston Churchill.
Budget – The best part of the Trump budget proposals is that he is judging the existing federal government programs by their results and not just by their admirable intentions.
Budget – Trump’s budget proposal only covers “discretionary” spending, and doesn’t include revenues, any forecasts about the economy, nor projected federal deficit and debt.
Manufacturing – Manufacturing output doubled in real terms in the 1980s and more than tripled what it was in the 1950s, in spite of the decline in factory employment.
Healthcare – Republicans promised to repeal ObamaCare, but all they’re doing is tickling it with their American Health Care Act, which only ratifies some of its components
Entitlements – Until out-of-control “earned” entitlements are reformed to become “sustainable”, the total federal budget will continue to bleed red ink into the federal debt.
Environment – Climate has changed throughout recorded history, and it can be costly to accommodate climate changes, but humans have little, if any, impact on these changes.
Environment – “Social cost of carbon” is junk science and garbage-in/garbage-out forecasting to assign global societal costs from “dangerous manmade climate change.”
Environment – The Trump administration has threatened to abandon the deeply-flawed Paris Climate Agreement, which he likens to a $2.5 trillion global tax on American production.
Immigration – Thirty countries are refusing to accept the deportations of illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes in the U.S., so suspending visas to their citizens warranted
Education – By taking over the student loan program, Obama politicized it since politicians are lending taxpayer money which they don’t care whether it is ever gets paid back.
Government – “Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.” P.J. O’Rourke.
Space – In 2016, there were 1,419 satellites orbiting the globe, including 576 from the U.S., 181 from China and 140 from Russia, with roughly 350 satellites, 25% of total, are for military use.
Military – About 75% of the nation’s 17-24 year olds are ineligible for military service, because they are poorly educated, physically unfit, or have criminal or mental problems.
GWOT – The best thing we could do to unify the country would be to formally declare War on Global Terrorism, by whatever name works and with whatever tactics are appropriate.
Israel – The 1917 Balfour Declaration stated the intention and the 1920 San Remo Mandate legally authorized creation of Palestine: Arab section (Jordan) and Jewish section (Israel).
