Musings on the Week
March 29, 2014
Government – “It’s time for the government to scale back, not for people of faith to scale back!” Mike Huckabee.
Politics – Liberalism is a quasi-religion: servicing and worshiping a supernatural ideal, with devotion to a binding faith, and blasphemy punished by lawsuits and social isolation.
Politics – It is time for Congress to telecommute: meet over the internet, communicate over the internet, vote electronically, meanwhile meeting and hearing constituents on daily basis.
Politics – Hillary Clinton is a haughty, angry politician who values political considerations over national interests and stretches the truth to protect herself… How did that work with Obama?
Politics - This week’s distractions from the stagnant economy and ObamaCare: more glbal warming hysteria and exaggerated foreign policy accomplishments.
Taxes – “The tax code is ten times the size of the Bible with none of the good news.” Paul Ryan.
Economy – Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s both downgraded the U.S. credit rating and nothing significant has improved, when will further credit rating downgrades be announced?
Housing – Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not being shut down, but instead replaced with the Federal Mortgage Insurance Corporation with same role and different name.
Income – Surveys found that narrowing the income gap is an afterthought for those who think they have a shot at success, but is a top priority for those who feel the game is rigged.
Healthcare – The sad truth is when ObamaCare is repealed, it will be just as painful to unravel the behemoth, then more pain to finally deliver a patient-centered healthcare system.
Immigration – 94% of people removed were individuals convicted of a serious criminal offense or people apprehended in the act of crossing the border – both not “deportations.”
Immigration – 40% of the illegal population entered legally and then overstayed their visas, exposing laxity in tracking foreign visitors and issuing visas to them in the first place..
Environment – Environmentalist have abandoned the inconvenient “facts,” which are too often refuted and instead have embraced the computer models as convenient fictions.
Justice – After the Supreme Court rules, women will have the same constitutional rights to acquire and use contraception, the only thing that could change is who has to pay for it.
Election – Voter fraud refers to fraudulent voting, impersonation, perjury, voter registration fraud, forgery, counterfeiting, bribery, destroying ballots, and electoral process crimes.
Election – A federal court upheld the power of the states to require proof-of-citizenship requirements on voter registration forms pursuant to the National Voter Registration Act.
Election – Rasmussen found that 78% of likely U.S. voters believe everyone should be required to prove his or her citizenship before being allowed to vote, up fo 71% a year ago.
Education – California Asian Americans over-achieve in high school and oppose race based admission standards, since 14% of graduates qualify for 33% of undergraduate entrants.
Education – It is time to eliminate college race and ethnic studies courses altogether, at least at the undergraduate level, because they are too narrow and not academically rigorous.
Civil Rights – The “black code” requires relationships with whites be kept at arm’s length; those who appear too friendly are viewed with suspicion; their blackness in question.
Civil Rights – Democrats support a comfortable social welfare system for a dependent under-class, requiring perpetual Party voting support… which Party is waging Race War?
Family – Democrats take an almost Islamic view of pregnancy in that the woman is at fault, not the man, and she is the one to be punished… which Party is waging a War on Women?
Abortion – Britain has its own Kermit Gosnell moment: several NHS hospitals routinely burned the bodies of aborted babies as “clinical waste,” generating power to heat the buidlings.
Defense – “Mr. President, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a god guy with a nuke.” Sarah Palin.
Foreign Policy – The disconnect between Obama’s foreign policy bluster and massive defense cuts undermines any American credibility and eliminates any deterrence value.
Defense – Obama is hollowing out the military forces diverting their attention to such things as alternative energy, social engineering, and non-lethal use of force.
Defense – Obama has devalued the Congressional Medal of Honor by introducing affirmative action as an additional criteria, to award 24 additional Medals of Honor.
Syria – A jihadi group gave Christian minorities three choices: 1) convert to Islam; 2) remain Christian but pay tribute and accept third-class subject status; or 3) die by the sword.
