Musings on the Week
Return to Common Sense
April 20, 2013
Crisis – “When written in Chinese, the word "crisis" is composed of two characters-one represents danger, and the other represents opportunity.” John F. Kennedy.
Politics – The Job Creators Network was formed to provide job creators with information for their employees to counteract the propaganda they hear from Democrats and the media.
Politics – Liberals try to change America from a country where the government draws all authority from the people to a country where the people are dependent on government.
Politics – Obama is focused on gun control and immigration, while the American public’s most important issues (economy, deficit, entitlements) continue to fester in stagnation.
Politics – The White House claims to be the most transparent in history but stonewalls FOIA requests, punishes whistleblowers, fires Inspector Generals and then never replaces them.
Politics – Margaret Thatcher was consistent, principled, experienced, and accomplished as a political leader, and in contrast, Hillary Clinton is almost the exact opposite.
Politics – Comprehensive Reform bills (1,000+ pages) are doomed to under-perform and disappoint, as amendments contain hidden pitfalls and special interest loopholes.
Politics – Organizing for America (OFA), Obama’s former campaign organization turned public opinion shaper, was only created to provide off-year paychecks for political zealots.
Media – The MSM downfall has already begun, but I expect this avalanche to continue more layoffs at the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the TV Network News departments.
Crisis – “I believe with all my heart that standing up for America means standing up for the God who has so blessed our land. We need God's help to guide our nation through stormy seas. But we can't expect Him to protect America in a crisis if we just leave Him over on the shelf in our day-to-day living.” Ronald Reagan.
Economy – Fed is propping up a dying economy: Fed is flooding market with fake money, Fed is buying mortgage-backed securities, and interest rates are being held artificially low.
Finance – The federal government that controls the supply of money, that makes and enforces the rules for the financial industry, is now the largest supplier of consumer credit.
Jobs – Young people (16-24) have the lowest labor force participation rate since 1972, as older workers remain working longer and young people are dropping out and giving up.
Social Security – Social Security is the worst retirement investment workers made with the lowest ROI, and now means-testing will subject seniors to more redistribution of wealth.
Environment – The EPA has abandoned cost-benefit analysis in their Tier 3 rulemaking, as the rules will cost billions of dollars but bring infinitesimal benefits, but will be imposed anyway.
Immigration – Obama’s favorite talking point that he has increased deportations of illegal aliens is basically incorrect, since actual deportations declined during this President’s term.
Immigration – Since it covers the same issues, why will the NEW Comprehensive Immigration Reform deliver any different results than the OLD 1986 bill that never fulfilled its promise.
Healthcare – ObamaCare is so complex that “healthcare navigators” are needed to interpret it, while independent insurance agents have already been doing this job for years.
Healthcare – ObamaCare is designed to serve citizens with affordable health care, but expanding its coverage to non-citizens will ensure it will never be financially unsustainable.
Marriage – Marriage is a union of two consenting adults, or opposite sex, who are not close relatives, but liberals are judicially attacking each of these three attributes one at a time.
Gun Control – The debate over gun control is just an attempt by liberals to disarm law-abiding citizens to make them dependent on the government for their personal safety.
Gun Control – Despite a lot of rhetoric, the expanded background check “compromise” bill does not do anything that would reduce gun violence or stop any Newtown-like tragedy.
Gun Control – Realizing the low probability of passing any gun control legislation, Obama signed 23 Executive Orders that has no impact on the people who own or want to own guns.
Deficit – I expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.
Housing – I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.
Crisis – “These are times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country.” Thomas Paine.
GWOT – President Obama’s pledge to bring the Boston perpetrators to justice will no doubt be just as effective as Obama’s pledge to bring the Benghazi perpetrators to justice!
Israel – The impact of “Palestinian” refusal to acknowledge the existence of Israel is the abandonment of any “two state solution” as dangerous and essentially unworkable.
Israel – I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then re-annexing Gaza based on defensible borders and 1920 San Remo Conference.
Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists, and Obama will talk a lot, but stand aside and refuse to help defend this longtime ally.
Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea, and Obama will be “unable” to support our troops and will negotiate for a stalemate.
