Musings on the Week

Populism - “We have a large public that is very ignorant about public affairs and very susceptible to simplistic slogans by candidates who appear out of nowhere, have no track record, but mouth appealing slogans”. Zbigniew Brzezinski.
Politics – Gallup found 18% of Americans see government as the country’s #1 problem, for the fourth month in a row and eighth time in the last year, ahead of economy and jobs.
Politics – A recent Gallup poll found declining support for Obama among American Jews at an all-time low of 50% in March, down from 65% in 2013 and 77% in 2009.
Politics - This week’s distractions from the sluggish economy and ObamaCare: renewed global warming focus and lack of detail in Iranian nuclear development “deal.”
Politics – It is difficult to imagine anyone more out of touch with her own affect, movement, and connection to the people around her than Hillary Clinton, because she is so contrived .
Politics – Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals rule # 5 is “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon” and Hillary Clinton is in trouble as the mainstream media is circling and mockery is trending.
Politics – Clinton Cash establishes bribe-taking by the Clintons, Bill and Hillary, from foreign governments making them the most corrupt politicians ever to inhabit the White House.
Politics - My Conservative Dream Team remains Scott Walker for President and Ted Cruz for Vice President, delivering a combination of executive leadership and conservative principle.
Populism - “If we put our trust in the common sense of common men and 'with malice toward none and charity for all' go forward on the great adventure of making political, economic and social democracy a practical reality, we shall not fail.” .
Economy – At present rate of growth in per capita GDP, it will take 31 years for this recovery to match the per capita income growth already achieved in previous postwar recoveries.
Income – Income inequality in the United States has been growing for decades, but the inequity trend appears to be accelerated during the Obama administration.
Land – Nearly half of the western states is owned by the federal government including over 60% of Alaska and nearly 80% of Nevada with limited development by executive fiat.
Housing – Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are being pressured to meet new “affordable housing” quotas set by the administration, forcing them to “relax underwriting standards.”
Taxes – Five of the highest-tax blue states in the nation, California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Illinois, had a net loss of 4 million U.S. residents over the last decade
Energy – The nation’s first Quadrennial Energy Review is largely a series of recommendations to buy off states to go along with the costly and unnecessary “Clean Power Plan.”
Energy – Despite billions spent on wind and solar development, green energy won’t scale up, and is expected to make up just 4% of the nation’s domestic energy supply by 2040.
Environment – With global-temperatures flat and the worsening-storms scenario debunked, the Obama administration forecasts sound like scare tactics, not fact-based predictions.
Environment – Air quality is dramatically cleaner with every type of harmful air pollution it measures reduced over the past several decades, below government current standards.
Environment – Carbon dioxide levels in the U.S. are down sharply with emissions down to where they were around 1993, despite two decades of population and economic growth.
Environment – No matter how much costly regulations the U.S. imposes or how dire the warnings, none of the solutions offered have come close to preventing climate change.
Family – Optimal family structure for a child’s intellectual, emotional, and physical flourishing is being raised in a home by their biological, married parents.
Abortion – Large Majorities of Americans support limits on abortion, including banning after 20 weeks (when one quarter of babies can survive) or 24 weeks (when half or more can).
Gun Control – Pew polling found that 52% of Americans believe defending gun rights is more important than gun control, while 63% say the guns in the home make homes safer.
Justice – Now that Loretta Lynch has been confirmed as the Attorney General, she can continue to ignore the Constitution, like Eric Holder, in pursuit of Obama’s political agenda.
Populism - “As with fascism, the rise of Islamic totalitarianism has partly to do with its populist appeal to the class resentments of an economically oppressed population and to anger at political subordination and humiliation.Ellen Willis.
Foreign Aid – Two thirds of all U.S. aid, including both military and non-military aid, goes to Islamic countries.
Trade – The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a trade, environment, labor, human rights, and digital-copyright agreement negotiated in secret and is a high price to pay for a Pacific trade deal.
GWOT - Exactly 100 years ago the last Muslim caliphate, the Ottoman Empire, tried to rid its empire of Christian minorities (Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks), as the new caliphate, the Islamic State, resumes the Christian genocide.
Military – General Martin Dempsey has directed that if physical standards are too difficult for women, the standards will have to be ratcheted down to “equal but lower” levels.
Middle East – The Islamic State continues to offer Christian minorities three choices: Islam; the dhimma (extortion) contract; or death as thousands are slaughtered who refuse to submit.
Iraq – The U.S.-led coalition’s Operation Inherent Resolve bombing campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq is little more than a “phony war” since it is more one of “pinpricks.”
