Musings on the Week
Musings on the Week
April 30, 2016
America - “What the people want is very simple -- they want an America as good as its promise..” Barbara Jordan.
Politics – The principle of Federalism allows States to define unique positions on non-federal issues, such as: abortion, same-sex marriage, death penalty, drug use, education, right-to-work, minimum wage, insurance, gun control, use of public land, and welfare eligibility.
Scandals – Despite all the scandals uncovered during the Obama administration, federal corruption prosecutions are at a 20-year low, down almost 40% since 1995.
Politics - This week’s distractions from the economy, ObamaCare, and terrorism: changing the image on the $20 bill and deploying a few Special Forces troops to Syria.
Politics - In an election defined by anti-establishment energy and anger, the two parties are now diverging as Republicans fully embrace an outsider as their Presidential nominee and Democrats line up behind a quintessential insider.
Politics – After seven years of Democrat broken promises and under-achievement, Hillary Clinton is running as more of the same inviting voters to reject her and these failed policies, but Republicans are backing Donald Trump, who is more unlikable and even less trustworthy!
Politics – if the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server finds overwhelming evidence of criminal wrongdoing and the Justice Department refuses to indict her, not only could there be mass resignations, including FBI Director James Comey, but there could also be major leaks of unauthorized FBI investigative materials to the public.
Politics – In an election during which trust in government is at an all-time low, the wrapping up of the Clinton investigations will be a historic turning point, comparable to Watergate.
Politics – As Bernie Sanders is planning to lay off hundreds of campaign staffers across the country, he has gone from leading a revolution to leading a wake!
Politics – Donald Trump may be delusional since he believes primary processes created before he was a candidate were designed to thwart his personal ambitions (paranoia).
Media – Like Obama in 2008, the media fix has been in for Donald Trump as low information types are eating it up, since Trump needs the free airtime and the media needs the ratings.
Language – The Taxed Enough Already (TEA) party has disappeared from the national stage, replaced by “teabaggers” (apparently what liberals do to each other as they strategize).
America - “People are asking me about the race problem.... I know of no race problem. The great problem that confronts the American people to-day is a national problem -- whether this great nation of ours is great enough to live up to its own convictions, carry out its own declaration of independence, and execute the provisions of its own constitution..” Frederick Douglass.
Economy - The GDP grew at an anemic 0.5% last quarter after a paltry 1.4% in fourth quarter, ranking Obama as the 4th worst presidency on record, after Roosevelt, Johnson, and Hoover.
Jobs – When the recession hit, suicide deaths suddenly started outnumbering deaths from auto accidents, but eight years later job losses are still driving the suicide rate higher.
Healthcare – After six years, the Affordable Care Act has been fully unmasked as clearly not affordable, either for a person seeking health insurance, companies that sell insurance coverage, or the U.S. government, a symbol of Obama’s dysfunctional leadership.
Environment – The climate scam is just the latest way for leftists to pry more of our money and sovereignty from us, like the ice age scam, the acid rain scam and the ozone hole scam.
Environment – Since Obama felt obligated to sign the Paris agreement, Congress is now obligated to explicitly reject any funding for this global redistribution of wealth scheme.
Environment – The “AGs United for Clean Power” (“AGs United to Silence Dissent”) have embarked upon a violation of the First Amendment to suppress free speech.
Environment – The National Snow and Ice Data Center has been caught manipulating he official statistics on the sea ice coverage in the Arctic to support global warming hysteria.
Education – An easy way for colleges to return free speech on campus is to encourage discussion and dissent, but punish all those who disrupt free speech with expulsion.
Civil Rights – Micro-aggressions are “subtle, ambiguous, and often unintentional” and assume racism is everywhere, but it also assumes the accused is guilty until proven innocent.
Sexuality – Why must 100% of bathrooms and locker rooms be changed to accommodate the wants and needs of a tiny minority (transgender) more important than the wants and needs of the overwhelming majority and require the 99+% to change?
Sexuality – As corporations choose sides in the gender wars, consumers are voting with their wallets organizing “buycotts” to punish those companies that choose the wrong side.
Sports – I wonder whether the Olympic Committee will allow Caitlyn Jenner to compete in the women’s decathlon event and which locker room she should use to get dressed?
Drugs – Illegal drug use had a deadly toll in 2014, with 17,465 Americans dying due to illicit drugs, with a record 10,574 dead from heroin overdoses.
Crime – Police racism is the vicious propaganda spread by progressives and Democrat operatives, based on nonexistent institutional racism ignoring facts on victims and criminals.
Crime – The Ferguson Effect, the result of treating police officers like enemies, is a root cause why the murder rate rose 13.3% in 2015, lead by Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington DC.
Defense – Whether Obama admits it or not, the United States is actively involved in a “Hot War” declared by Islamic extremists and a reinvigorated Cold War with Russia and China.
Defense – Obama promised to eliminate North Korea’s nuclear weapons program and ensure Iran never develops nuclear weapons, but now his focus is eliminate nuclear defense.
United Kingdom – Obama urged the UK to remain in the European Union, but why should the British take advice from a President who has surrendered the world to chaos?
Israel – As Palestinians strive to drive Jews from the Middle East, Israel should formally annex the Golan Heights, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip as integral to national survival.
Venezuela – The Venezuelan economy is in deep trouble, contracting at 7% per year with inflation running at 720% and the poverty rate increased to 80%.
