Musings on the Week
Return to Common Sense
May 11, 2013
Dependence – “I am not among those who fear the people. They, and not the rich, are our dependence for continued freedom.” Thomas Jefferson.
Politics – The Republican Party is getting more diverse: an African-American and two Cuban-American senators and an Indian-American and two Mexican-American governors.
Politics – The two political parties define compromise differently: Republicans mean finding common ground to agree on; while Democrats mean capitulation to progressive ideas.
Politics – Obama’s approval rating hit its lowest mark since the start of 2012 with support tumbling as budget and ObamaCare setbacks hit and the economy remains sluggish.
Politics – It is really sad that 29% of registered voters agreed that an armed revolution might be necessary to protect our liberties, but no way do they support an armed revolution.
Politics – Obama accuses the Republicans of moving right, but his perspective is wrong since it is the Democrats who have moved left and the GOP has not really changed.
Politics – The Benghazi investigation confirms Hillary Clinton is a serial liar, and reveals that people died (Whitewater, WH Travel Office, Benghazi) as she furthers her political ambitions.
Media – the PC movement is the opposite of civility, being a tyranny against free expression, driven by a Marxist cultural jihad, meant to quash all dissent against progressive ideas.
Media – As new technologies emerge, I expect Twitter will go the way of telephone party lines doomed by personal privacy issues and a lack of any viable business case.
Media – The MSM downfall has already begun, but I expect this avalanche to continue more layoffs at the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the TV Network News departments.
Dependence – “We don't want to turn the safety net into a hammock that lulls able-bodied people into complacency and dependence.” Paul Ryan.
Jobs – 9.5 million Americans have left the workforce (unemployed and no longer looking for work) during the presidency of Barack Obama, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Jobs – It is an inconvenient truth that the groups that blindly voted for Obama: blacks, Hispanics, and young people are suffering the highest unemployment rates.
Finance – The Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) has renamed “too-big-to-fail” (TBTF) with a politically correct term, “systematical important finance institution” (SIFI).
Immigration – Over 20% of all the immigrants on the planet are in the United States as the country’s foreign-born population has doubled in the last two decades to 40 million.
Immigration – A Rassmussen poll found that 66% said legal status should come only after the border is finally secured to prevent future illegal immigration.
Immigration – After promising that legislation will require stronger border security measures, amendments were rejected to strengthen security or require security before amnesty.
Healthcare – All those Congressmen who parroted the President and said “relax, you can keep your current health coverage” won’t get to keep their current health coverage!
Gun Control – The rate of firearm homicides has plummeted over the past two decades with the sharpest declines in gun violence occurring in the 1990s with rates level since then.
Gun Control – Current legislation will not stop future gun crime or violence, since background checks, gun free zones, and drug treatments require violent people to follow the law.
Abortion – Kermit Gosnell’s abortion clinic was legal, licensed, and profitable, but was gruesome in its practices and crossed the legal line with later term abortions and infanticide.
Civil Rights – There is no quantifiable evidence that “diversity” delivers any race relations benefit to any organization other than cosmetic embellishments.
Deficit – I expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.
Housing – I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.
Dependence – “We need to exert ourselves that much more, and break out of the vicious cycle of dependence imposed on us by the financially powerful: those in command of immense market power and those who dare to fashion the world in their own image.” Nelson Mandela.
Defense – Our Commander in Chief must never threaten unless he intends to act to back up his threat, but Obama’s “red line” empty threat reveals his word can no longer be trusted.
GWOT – No matter how much you want to ignore the Islamo-Fascist Global War on Terror, you can’t ignore that 30 of the top 32 on the FBI Most Wanted Terrorist List are Islamists.
Russia – Vladimir Putin gave Secretary of State John Kerry all the respect he deserved by making him wait three hours for a meeting and then fidgeted throughout their discussion.
Latin America – Obama has begun is Apology Tour II blaming America for his Fast And Furious gun running debacle and blaming Americans for drug smuggling and drug use.
Israel – I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then re-annexing Gaza based on defensible borders and 1920 San Remo Conference.
Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists, and Obama will talk a lot, but stand aside and refuse to help defend this longtime ally.
Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea, and Obama will be “unable” to support our troops and will negotiate for a stalemate.
