Musings on the Week

May 16, 2015

Economy - “Every time in this century we've lowered the tax rates across the board, on employment, on saving, investment and risk-taking in this economy, revenues went up, not down.”  Jack Kemp.

Politics – My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, Barack Obama’s private sector nonprofit version of his government initiative is acting as a political slush fund and conduit for political bribery.

Politics – It is not worth listening to the “low-information voters” (“useful idiots”) who spout leftist talking points without an understanding of principles and ignoring inconvenient facts.

Politics – Michelle Obama is a “legend in her own mind” whose unattractive racial paranoia is on display as she sees grocery stores, museums, and political campaigns as “racist.”

Politics – SuperPACs are the instruments through which rich people give candidates unlimited amounts of money and bypass the Federal Election Commission restrictions.

Politics – Hillary Clinton is fighting back against the book, Clinton Cash, by attacking the author, attacking its burden of proof, but not rebutting any findings or culture of corruption.

Politics – At least four board members of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation have either been charged with or convicted of serious crimes, including bribery and fraud.

Politics – Although there are over a dozen declared and undeclared candidates for the Republican ticket, only Scott Walker and Ted Cruz stand out as an unbeatable combination.

Justice – With four sitting Supreme Court Justices at or approaching the average retirement age, the next President will likely replace three or four Justices during the next administration.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the sluggish economy and ObamaCare: First Lady’s imagined racial slights and provoking Islamic homicidal rage at a cartoon contest.

Media – 2014 U.S. midterm elections, 2015 Israeli Knesset elections, and 2015 British House elections all confounded pollsters who do better selling election results than predicting them.

Economy -I, however, place economy among the first and most important republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared.Thomas Jefferson.

Economy – The first quarter growth rate was 0.2%, but when it is updated it will likely show a contraction in the first quarter, because the trade deficit is larger than expected.

Debt – The ratio of government debt to economic output has been steady for decades but soared under Obama, and is projected to rise under pressure from entitlement spending.

Regulations – Federal regulation and intervention cost American consumers and businesses an estimated $1.88 trillion in 2014 in lost economic productivity and higher prices.

Jobs – The Labor Department’s blatant fabrication of recovery narrative ignores the all time high of 93.2 million not in the labor force, with the labor participation rate at a pre-1978 level.

Social Security – More than 30 countries have fully or partially privatized their social security systems with private savings accounts.

Housing – Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were key components of the 2008 financial collapse and seven years later this administration is resurrecting their toxic ways to destroy it again.

Energy – The green energy fad’s rapid and expensive demise should teach us that central planning doesn’t work, because without subsidies green energy is not economically viable.

Environment – Considering the current sunspot minimums, a couple degrees of global warming, with more carbon dioxide, would be beneficial for humanity and the planet.

Environment – The UN Climate Change real agenda is concentrated international political authority with Global Warming simply a “hook to engage the les knowledgeable nations.

Healthcare – There are only 12 state health care exchanges remaining, which supports ObamaCare’s ultimate plan for the complete federal takeover of the health care industry.

Immigration – Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been replaced with automated kiosks at airports to collect their visa information without any human scrutiny.

Transportation – Taxpayers have subsidized Amtrak with $45 billion since the company was formed in 1977, while 41 out of 44 routes operate at a loss in this government monopoly.

Transportation – The Highway Trust Fund’s authorization expires at the end of the month and the CBO projects spending will exceed tax revenues by $180 billion over the next decade.

Smoking – Healthcare zealots are trying to regulate e-cigarettes even though they contain no tobacco, produce no smoke, and no evidence of any link to cancer.

Economics - “Economists are pessimists: they've predicted 8 of the last 3 depressions.” Barry Asmus.

Freedom – Freedom House’s annual report on the condition of global political rights and civil liberties showed an overall decline, with twice as many countries suffering declines as gains.

Trade – The reason Obama will not get Fast-Track Authorization is because Congress does not trust him to negotiate on America’s behalf, such as the secret Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Trade – Hidden in the secret Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement is the creation of an international Environmental Protection Agency to implement environmental agreements.

GWOT – Free speech is free speech, whether it is by the Ku Klux Klan of by Pamela Gellar, and crimes are committed after the speeches and not because of the speeches.

GWOT – Ten countries where homosexuality may be punished by death: Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Mauritania, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates.

Military – The warrior culture is slowly being strangled to death by political correctness as physical standards are being lowered to accommodate liberal equality requirements.

China – China’s massive defense buildup is designed to be able to defeat the U.S. in war, and once achieved there will be no brake on its expansion and mistreatment of neighbors.

Middle East – Obama is hosting a summit for “key Arab allies” but of the six heads of the members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GGC) only two, Kuwait and Qatar, will attend.

Libya – The House Select Committee on Benghazi, has released its preliminary report noting that the biggest problem has been the uncooperativeness of the Obama White House.
