Musings on the Week
May 20, 2017
Media – “All I know is just what I read in the newspapers, and that’s an alibi for my ignorance.” Will Rogers.
Politics – Stock market is up 15% since election; Small business confidence highest in 11 years; Consumer confidence is the highest in 17 years; Unemployment lowest level in 29 years.
Politics – Senator Chuck Schumer, U.S. Senate Minority Leader, is loud, arrogant, and totally ineffectual since his unceasing bombast accomplishes nothing of consequence.
Politics – There is no evidence of any illegal acts between the Trump administration and Russia, but evidence continues to accumulate proving that Hillary Clinton and her minions had an extensive network of contacts with Russia in various illegal pay-for-play schemes.
Politics – It is a waste of time by the administration to assign a Special Council to oversee the Russia probe, because there is no law broken and thus no justice obstructed.
Politics – The only question is whether this Special Council is part of Trump’s “rope-a-dope” strategy to exhaust Democrats focused on minor issues while he accomplishes major ones.
Politics – The good news is that when this Russia witch hunt completes and no law has been broken, the hysterical Left will have to return from their Bizarro-conspiracy land to admit they lost and finally admit that President Trump is legitimate, and get back to America’s business!
Politics – It is time for one more major shakeup in the executive branch and intelligence community to cleanse the inner circle of disloyal and/or partisan opponents.
Media – Trump is proving to be a master at “playing the media like a violin” and “distracting them with shiny objects” while he pursues his domestic and international objectives.
Media – Donald Trump could sign an executive order supporting sunshine and lollipops and Democrats would proclaim with a straight face that this is proof that the President is a climate change denier who thinks kids should eat more sugar and get diabetes.
Media – The Washington Post has become the leader in “fake news” asserting, then being disproved, that the FBI was investigating Trump and Trump released codeword information,
Media – The only thing worth reading in the Washington Post these days is the headlines, because they indicate how tightly the laces are tied on their political straight jacket.
Media – President Trump must get away from Washington to re-connect with the American people outside the partisan beltway with rallies, visits and commencement speeches.
Media – “Those who are capable of tyranny are capable of perjury to sustain it.” Lysander Spooner.
Land – Our national parks should be protected, but we have gone overboard, and far too many areas are now in lockdown specifically to block energy and mineral development.
Debt – As of the end of the first quarter, total household debt is $12.73 trillion, a level not seen since 2008, just as the global financial system began to collapse.
Pensions – America’s pension systems are being underfunded which requires more money to be found to fund expected payouts or pensions must be slashed for future retirees.
Healthcare – ObamaCare proved that heavy-handed government intervention in the health care industry makes it worse, but single payer has the opportunity to make it even worse!
Immigration – The DHS has reduced the list of countries who refused deportees: Burma, Cambodia, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Guinea, Iran, Laos, Morocco, South Sudan and Vietnam.
Welfare – Maine is overhauling their welfare benefits system to: put work first, protect benefits for the truly needy, and make welfare a temporary hand up, not a lifetime handout.
Media – “A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic.” Joseph Stalin.
Foreign Policy – Foreign policy options should reflect the differences between the military and the police, because the military destroys threats, while the police keep order.
United Nations – The UN Agenda 2030 is the path to One World Government ruled by unelected non-accountable elites to redistribute wealth world-wide.
