Musings on the Week

May 24, 2014

Leadership – Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes.” Peter Drucker.

Politics – Obama brags “I come from the Land of Lincoln” but more accurately he should say he is “from the Land of Daly” with its culture of political corruption and vote buying.

Politics – Obama is either: 1) clueless, only hearing about scandals from the press; or 2) a bold faced liar, refusing to admit anything – both are poor choices for a U.S. President.

VA – The latest VA scandal is being handled like all the others: ignore as long as possible, deny any knowledge, deny any wrongdoing, attack whistleblowers, then spin, stall, delay.

VA – Administration excuse that the VA scandal was caused by lack of funding is dis-proven: since from 2000, outlays nearly tripled while the number of veterans declined by 4.3 million.

VA – The problems at the VA are sneak previews of what single payer health care will look like under ObamaCare, so it is fortuitous that we see how it operates before it is too late.

IRS – When will Congress get serious and arrest Lois Lerner placing her in the “Scooter Libby cover-up scapegoat” cell for her perjury and obstruction of justice at the IRS?

Politics – Based on the increased number of Tea Party primary candidates, Republicans can no longer ignore constituent’s desire for a more conservative approach.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the stagnant economy and ObamaCare: hysterical climate change exaggerations and FBI hacker bust of global cyber-criminals.

Leadership – If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.John Quincy Adams.

Finance – Keeping Fannie and Freddie or replacing them with clones, means that the government will continue to subsidize mortgage borrowing and bail out these GSEs again.

Jobs – The “real” employment situation that currently exists in the U.S. is the increasing number of Americans who have given up even looking for work anymore.

Social Security – Total disability beneficiaries rose to 10,996,447 in April, including 8,942,232 disabled workers, 153,475 disabled workers spouses, and 1,900,740 disabled worker children.

Labor – Progressives dislike private monopolies, but out of allegiance to public-employee unions have long defended public monopolies.

Automobiles – General Motors was bailed out in 2009 and did not learn it business lessons, so now a failure in electrical and business engineering may necessitate a second bailout.

Land – The federal government owns 28% of the land in the U.S. restricting the state’s ability to exploit this land for their citizen’s benefit, so it may be time to take back this federal land.

Healthcare – ObamaCare guaranteed in the “risk corridors” program to bail out insurers from losses racked up as part of the health care law and artificially maintain low premiums.

Environment – Germany was an early adopter of environmentalism, but has found that the “cap and trade” scheme is a just a stealth tax for futile renewable energy projects.

Energy – Solar power, like wind power, cannot compete with conventional electricity generation without huge government subsidies to mask the low-capacity production model.

Elections – A majority of every demographic support voter ID laws, with 91% of Republicans, 66% of Independents, and 55% of Democrats support the law with 51% of black respondents.

Elections – Ten states, plus the District of Columbia, have passed a National Popular Vote (NPV) which is unconstitutional, since Constitution changes require a national Amendment.

Education – The 2013 National Assessment of Educational Progress found just 26% of 12th graders are proficient in math and only 38% proficient in reading, unchanged since 2009.

Abortion – Since science defines human life beginning at conception, how can 50 million American “legal” abortions NOT be classified as pre-meditated murder?

Sexuality – Never forget 96% of Americans are heterosexual, so no legislation or media interpretation can alter that homosexuality is a tiny minority and everything else a deviation.

Marriage – Never forget legally changing the definition of marriage is not the same as Americans embracing a term that is biologically, culturally, and religiously incorrect.

Civil Rights – Liberals pine for the days when there were genuine and clear-cut injustices to fight, since discrimination is now illegal and courts routinely enforce these laws.

Leadership – When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat.Ronald Reagan.

Defense – Despite the pentagon saying 20% of its facilities are excess and budget caps, the House Armed Forces Committee refuses to identify unneeded military bases for closing.

GWOT – Islamists are to Islam what Nazis were to Germany; Islamists are to Islam what the Ku Klux Klan is to Caucasians; Islamists are to Islam what Al Sharpton's National Action Network is to Black people; Islamists are to Islam what cancer is to healthy tissue.

Afghanistan – The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction has found $103 billion spent to reconstruct Afghanistan with another $6-10 billion promised for years to come.
