Musings on the Week
May 25, 2013
Leadership – “Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes.” Peter Drucker.
Politics – If government was a business and subject to economic realities and business results, Barack Obama would be fired as the country would be forced into bankruptcy.
Politics – The historic legacy of Obama will be political hubris, coupled with pride and arrogance, compounded by incompetence and a complete lack of character.
Politics – The worst part of the IRS and DOJ scandals is that the perpetrators view their actions as nothing illegal, unconstitutional or wrong, and these people remain when Obama is gone.
Politics – President Obama’s job approval rating remaining high is a reflection of the cult-ism support by low information voters refusing to acknowledge his culture of corruption.
Politics – Although Republicans could pursue impeachment, the best plan is to concentrate on stopping more legislative damage and focus on winning in the 2014 and 2016 elections.
Politics – The existing Congressional Tea Party Caucus has done nothing substantial since it began in June 2010 and apparently was created solely to pad the resumes of its members.
Media – The government is losing the ability to manipulate information to avoid accountability, as the media finally wakes up and begins to ask penetrating questions.
Media – As new technologies emerge, I expect Twitter will go the way of telephone party lines doomed by personal privacy issues and a lack of any viable business case.
Media – The MSM downfall has already begun, but I expect this avalanche to continue more layoffs at the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the TV Network News departments.
Leadership – “The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” Theodore Roosevelt.
Jobs – President Obama is proud that the unemployment rate stands at 7.5%, the lowest in his presidency, but forget to mention that 7.5% was the highest rate during Bush’s presidency.
Demographics – Nearly three quarters of metropolitan Americans live in suburbs, not core cities, where the poverty rate is roughly half that of the urban centers (20.9% vs. 11.4%).
Economy – Depending how you define your economic terms and their triggers, this long-term downturn with economic growth below trend can be defined as a “depression.”
Finance – Central banks were tried and rejected twice in our early nation’s history, and now it is time to reject the government sponsored Federal Reserve banks as the latest failure.
Energy – The Smart Meter is a propaganda device to benefit utility companies, the electronic industry, and the global government, while ignoring the associated health issues.
Agriculture – Since roughly 80% of the “farm bill” is comprised of food stamp spending, it is time to separate the agriculture spending from the means-tested welfare spending.
Healthcare – Only 32% of Americans liked ObamaCare when it passed & still like it, 7% liked the law when it passed but like it less, while 45% disliked it when it passed and still dislike it.
Healthcare – Sarah Hall Ingram led the IRS tax exempt division that oversaw political targeting, and should be imprisoned and not transferred to oversee ObamaCare division.
Immigration – Our country does not have a “broken immigration system;” just a government that refuses to enforce existing immigration and visa laws and refuses to secure its borders.
Immigration – According to Homeland Security, U.S. authorities are catching somewhere between 40% and 55% of the people who try to cross the border illegally.
Immigration – Blaming sequester budget cuts, ICE freed 2,226 illegal-alien detainees from federal custody, including 622 with criminal records including 32 with multiple felonies.
Poverty – Since 1965 and the War on Poverty, the federal government has spent over $15 trillion to operate 126 anti-poverty programs, yet we’ve barely dented the poverty rate.
Homeland Security – Operation Vigilant Eagle is a DHS program that treats military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan as terrorist threats “disgruntled” and suffering from PTSD.
Education – Since 1965, the federal government has spent nearly $200 billion on the Head Start program, but DH&HS found that there are no lasting benefits to children participating.
Abortion – Now that Kermit Gosnell has been found guilty of murder, Texas and Maryland are preparing their own prosecution of their own late term abortionists, and more may follow.
Civil Rights – America deserves an apology from the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Democrat Party for recklessly and unfairly playing the race card.
Deficit – I expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.
Housing – I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.
Leadership – “The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending against all hazards: it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.” Sam Adams.
Foreign Policy – Susan Rice was disaster in State Department, ineffectual as UN Ambassador, and talking head in the Benghazi cover-up, and now promoted to National Security Advisor?
United Nations – There is no reason to ratify the United Nations version of United States laws since it only subordinates authority to an international body not accountable to U.S. voters.
GWOT – There have been no “large scale” terrorist attacks since Obama has been President, but there have been three “small scale” attacks with 17 deaths and 50+ attacks thwarted.
Libya – No one held accountable: 1) inadequate security despite requests; 2) refusal to support Americans under attack; and 3) election-driven cover-up of inconvenient reality.
Sweden – Violent rioting, involving hundreds of (PC) “youths,” neglects to identify those involved as Muslim immigrants, because cultural diversity is a government initiative.
Israel – I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then re-annexing Gaza based on defensible borders and 1920 San Remo Conference.
Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists, and Obama will talk a lot, but stand aside and refuse to help defend this longtime ally.
Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea, and Obama will be “unable” to support our troops and will negotiate for a stalemate.
