Musings on the Week
Musings on the Week
June 1, 2013
Victory – “To give victory to the right, not bloody bullets, but peaceful ballots only, are necessary.” Abraham Lincoln.
Politics – Harry Truman famously kept a sign on his desk in the Oval Office, “The Buck Stops Here,” while Barack Obama hangs a sign on the door to the Oval Office, “Do Not Disturb.”.
Politics – With the nation’s problems unsolved and scandals festering, the President is doing the only thing he does well, giving speeches and raising money for the Democrat Party.
Politics – Although clearly guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice, the Democrat Senate refused to convict Bill Clinton of Impeachment, much like conditions today with Obama.
Politics – Attorney General Eric Holder testified, while under oath, that “not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, of investigations” and found to have signed the warrants.
Politics – The IRS commissioner visited the White House 118 times in 2010-11, and often in 2012 but never mentioned ongoing efforts, and only visited once in 2005-08 – unbelievable?.
Politics – Inspectors General are responsible for ferreting out mismanagement, fraud and corruption in the federal government, but there are 10 vacancies with 4 vacant for 3 years.
Politics – The culture of intimidation includes not only the DOJ and the IRS, but also the BATF, the FBI, the EPA, OSHA, and the FDA engaging in partisan behavior and biased treatment.
Politics – Lenin’s “useful idiots” are unintended propagandists have been updated and replaced with Obama’s “low information voters” who know little but are dependable voters.
Politics – Hillary Clinton is overrated, who accomplished nothing as a Senator, accomplished nothing as Secretary of State, now spins herself as a can-do Presidential candidate?
Politics – The Republican Study Committee (“conservative conscience”) has become the locus on power in the House, with 171 out of 234 Republicans and setting the agenda.
Politics – The Tea Party went independent in 2009, then tried mainstream in 2012 with limited success, so now it is time to return to independence for critical change in 2014/2016.
Media – As new technologies emerge, I expect Twitter will go the way of telephone party lines doomed by personal privacy issues and a lack of any viable business case.
Media – The MSM downfall has already begun, but I expect this avalanche to continue more layoffs at the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the TV Network News departments.
Victory – “If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride - and never quit, you'll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.” Paul Bryant.
Budget – The GAO has identified $250 billion worth of duplicative and overlapping programs within the federal government that can be eliminated, but Congress has not acted yet.
Taxes – The best reason to abolish income taxes and replace with a flat consumption-based tax is to make taxes government neutral, not a social engineering tool for behavior control.
Social Security – Disability Insurance (SSDI) is the fastest growing entitlement (14.1 million), now costing more than food stamps and welfare combined and will run out of funds in 2016.
Immigration – Immigrants are required to be self-sufficient and not be a ward of the state, but now no one is considered a “public charge” when in need of government assistance.
Immigration – “Comprehensive” immigration reform CAN NOT defer border security, pretend immigrants won’t receive means tested entitlements, nor ignore the anchor baby loophole.
Immigration – Islamic immigrants reject in clear, unambiguous, and often strident terms the entire premise of multiculturalism, since they do not want to ever assimilate into the culture.
Healthcare – ObamaCare Navigator Corps is the Mother of all Community Organizing Boondoggles created to enroll participants into government run health care exchanges.
Healthcare – A record 72,600,000 were enrolled in Medicaid for at least a month in fiscal 2012, which means 23% of Americans received health care coverage to low income citizens.
Education – More than 50% of college graduates finance their educations with student loans, ending up with an average of $28,000 in debt, but now 33% wish they never went to college.
Gay Rights – When Canada’s version of the Boy Scouts voted in 1998 to welcome open homosexuality, its membership fell by over half in five years – EXPECT THE SAME HERE!
Deficit – I expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.
Housing – I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.
Victory – “Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.” Winston Churchill.
United Nations – Washington rumor has it that Barack Obama wants to become the U.N. Secretary General after he finishes his second term, much like Bill Clinton before him.
GWOT – The U.S. suffers because they never convened a unique “Geneva Convention for Asymetrical Warfare” to define combatants, prisoner treatment, and rules of engagement.
Israel – I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then re-annexing Gaza based on defensible borders and 1920 San Remo Conference.
Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists, and Obama will talk a lot, but stand aside and refuse to help defend this longtime ally.
Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea, and Obama will be “unable” to support our troops and will negotiate for a stalemate.
