Musings on the Week

Musings on the Week

June 7, 2014

Truth – He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world’s believing him.  This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good disposition.” Thomas Jefferson.

Politics – Apparently Obama has come to the conclusion that his administration is not going to accomplish its goals, so anything goes as public opinion really doesn’t matter anymore.

Politics – Obama thought releasing Bergdahl would distract from the VA scandal, but instead it uncovered its own scandal and reinforced the culture of corruption in this administration.

VA – If the shoddy medical care that veterans received from the VHA had been disclosed as the result of an official pilot study to test the feasibility and logistics of a large-scale government-run healthcare system, ObamaCare would never have been implemented.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the stagnant economy and ObamaCare:  justifying carbon regulations with false health claims and a terrorist swap for a military deserter.

Politics – Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are both branded as Teflon politicians with an abundance of sound bites, a shortage of accomplishments, and a surplus of scandals.

Politics – It is interesting that Hillary Clinton named her book “Hard Choices” which is the identical title as Jimmy Carter’s Secretary of State’s memoir of non-achievement.

Truth – The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie, deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, pervasive and unrealistic.John F. Kennedy.

Economy – The only thing Obama's economic policies have produced with any consistency over the past five years is disappointment, with the GDP declining by 1.0% in the first quarter.

Jobs – According to the BLS, the percentage of American civilians 16 or older who do not have a job and are not actively seeking one remained at a 36-year high (37.2%) in May.

Dependence – Progressives are known for giving lots of handouts while the people remain poor, while conservatives deliver programs for people to climb themselves out of poverty.

Dependence – Obama is constructing an urban poverty state with some areas in the cities uninhabitable, and paying for this perpetual poverty state by cutting commitments abroad.

Jobs – There’s nothing wrong with people, wanting to stay home with children, choosing to be out of the labor force, so long as they’re not expecting taxpayers to pay their expenses.

Environment – CO2 is a harmless (actually beneficial) gas and is critical for plant life, at the low end of the scale, just above the survival level needed for plants for photosynthesis.

Environment – The National Climate Assessment is a collection of imagined future climate catastrophes and disasters for every section of the country designed to convince the public that only quick action to cut emissions of carbon dioxide could avert these horrible events.

Environment – Cap and Trade is the 21st century equivalent of medieval religious indulgences offering guilt reduction paid for by hugely expensive and ineffective environmental promises.

Automotive – In the five years since the General Motors $49.5 billion bailout, GM earned a stunning $22.6 billion while the U.S. Treasury lost $10.6 billion in their GM stock investment.

Healthcare – Massachusetts is the current model for ObamaCare execution, unaffordable with poor quality, while single-payer VA is the future model for federal socialized medicine.

Healthcare – An HHS regulation would slow the growth of premiums charged to subsidized ObamaCare shoppers, by shifting $7 billion of cost over 10 years to the government.

Healthcare – A new IG report found Medicare lost 6.7 billion dollars to fraud and error in 2010, but the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said it doesn't plan to investigate.

Energy – Nuclear energy provides over 60% of America’s clean energy, the only resource capable of producing low-cost, dependable, around-the-clock, zero-emission electricity.

Energy – The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has reversed its support for biofuels, admitting that growing crops for fuel “poses risks to ecosystems and biodiversity.”

Education – Texas, Virginia, Alaska, Nebraska, South Carolina and Indiana have not adopted the Common Core initiative at a state level, with Oklahoma and Missouri soon to leave also.

Civil Rights – Black Conservatives are living proof that liberalism’s fatalistic doctrines have failed and that politically engineered race-baiting is the final refuge of political scoundrels.

Truth – A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.Winston Churchill.

Foreign Policy – The number of Obama’s strawmen is a scary indicator of the depth of his political naivete, national paranoia, and a delusional Bizarro-like view of the world.

Defense – Wars only end when both sides acknowledge that one’s desired end state has been achieved, not when one side leaves – one side wins and the other side loses!

GWOT – Contrary to Obama’s narrative that al Qaeda has been “decimated,” there has been a 58% increase in the number of jihadist groups over the last four years.

GWOT – Only in Bizarro-land can Obama declare war over as he leaves the battlefield, but in real life, global terrorists declared war on the U.S. and they are far from finished!

Afghanistan – Obama traded five GITMO terrorist detainees for a U.S deserter, even though he had to ignore the rule of law requiring consulting with Congress on releasing prisoners.
