Musings on the Week
Return to Common Sense
June 16, 2012
Liberty - “Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty.” Ronald Reagan.
Politics – Next stop for the TEA Party is the swing states with dominant unions in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to secure big wins in the House, Senate, and the White House.
Politics – Voter Question: “How did that vote for Obama work out for you? Are you better off today than when Barack Obama was elected? Is he making the economy better or worse?
Unemployment Level (000) – number of unemployed worst in 30 years
Politics – Democrats are the party of big-money elites and the poor, out of touch with the average American, whose strategy is to energize the poor to vote for more dependence.
Politics – The President’s gaffe “the private sector is doing fine” unwittingly revealed his commitment to doubling down on his economic policies that have been an utter failure.
Politics – The Left’s four pillars of the welfare state power base are government education, public sector employee unions, the homosexual lobby, and the child killing industry.
Politics – Obama is absent on the economy with looming tax increases and indiscriminate Medicare and defense cuts providing excuses for everything and solutions to nothing.
Politics – If Obama was truly a leader there would be no need for security leaks to create a faux image of a highly effective, decisive, muscular, hands-on Commander-in-Chief.
Media – The media claims Republicans outspent Democrats by 7 to 1 in Wisconsin, but the reality is when you include the primary costs plus elections the spending was about even.
Media – Newspapers continue to hemorrhage readers with only political ads in the 2012 election to save them, but I expect many newspapers will disappear after the next election.
Politics – I expect that the 2012 Presidential election will be the most racist campaign, with baseless accusations used to distract voter attention from Obama’s record of failure.
Politics – Now that the Republican Party has settled on Mitt Romney, I expect that the TEA Party members will vote for him in November, but leave the Party to become Independents.
Liberty - “Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.” Thomas Jefferson.
Economy – America is no longer a prosperous country because our economy is based on debt and debt is not prosperity since borrowing does not build wealth.
Budget – Congressman Paul Ryan believes the only way Congress can break the partisan stalemate over taxes and spending to vote out the opposition in November.
Finance – College-loan debt is nearly a trillion dollars, more than credit-card debt or auto-loan debt, mimicking the housing bubble that brought down the banking system in 2008.
Jobs – Recent studies of the stimulus spending has found that for each public-sector job created, it destroyed or prevented creation of more than twice as many private sector jobs.
Immigration – Obama’s latest campaign distraction from his failed economic record is a quasi-amnesty policy for children of illegal aliens, which won’t solve the underlying problem.
Healthcare –Real health care reform comes from eliminating the misguided rules and incentives created by government and other interlopers into the patient-doctor covenant.
Healthcare – There is now email proof that the White House bribed drug companies by blocking proposals to bring down medicine prices in exchange for ObamaCare support.
Housing – The notoriously corrupt, scandalous community organization, ACORN, was defunded, but it was repackaged and rewarded with a huge budget increase in Chicago.
Education – Since 1970 public school enrollment is up by 8.5% and employment is up by 96.2%, while achievement has stagnated in math and reading and declined in science.
Environment – Obama will use Climate Change as a campaign issue, which is a golden opportunity to show this issue as junk science driven ideology that wasted close to $50 billion.
Agriculture – The annual farm bill is one of the most flagrant examples of corporate welfare in the federal budget, as farms with sales of $1 million or more received 23% of payments.
Debt – I expect that the country’s credit rating will again be downgraded after Congress debt ceiling discussions again fail to find sufficient spending cuts to halt deficit spending.
Deficit – I expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy by 2012 and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.
Housing – I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.
Liberty – “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” John F. Kennedy.
Defense – The Obama administration is intentionally releasing classified security information that is flattering in this election year, but now claims to be trying to plug these “leaks.”
Sweden – Sweden was an early adopter of the big government, Keynesian economics, high tax rates model, but now is an early reformer to roll back the excesses that kill their economy.
United Nations – The U.S. is the largest financial supporter of the UN, but Americans question the return on this investment since they overwhelmingly think the UN is doing a “poor job.”
Israel – I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas again in 2012 and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then annexing Gaza based on the concept of defensible borders.
Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists by 2012, and Obama will stand aside and not help defend this longtime ally.
Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea by the 2012, and Obama will be an unwitting accomplice as he abandons this ally in a time of war.
