Musings on the Week
Musings on the Week
June 18, 2016
Leadership - “Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it” Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Politics – It is no coincidence that both President Obama and Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton have Iranian confidants (Valerie Jarrett and Huma Abedin).
Politics - This week’s distractions from the economy, ObamaCare, and terrorism: stricter gun control to stop terrorism and categorizing Islamic terrorists by country of birth.
Politics – When FBI Director Comey recommends indictment of Hillary Clinton on multiple felonies, President Obama should be included as an unindicted co-conspirator.
Politics – President Obama may be considering a pre-emptive pardon for Hillary Clinton based on the Nixon pardon, but his pardon was as he was leaving office, not entering.
Politics – The political protestors who have plagued Republican candidates are paid leftist agitators who should all be arrested when protests turn into violent assaults and riots.
Media – Partisan political polls show Hillary Clinton winning the election, but when you correct for the non-representative sampling liberal bias, Donald Trump wins in a landslide.
Media – I applaud Donald Trump for revoking the press credentials of Washington Post reporters based on their incredibly inaccurate coverage and reporting of his campaign.
Media – Confidence in newspapers and TV news have hit all time lows in the latest Gallup survey, the latest proof that Americans are losing faith in the media.
Leadership - “Good leadership consists of showing average people how to do the work of superior people.” John D. Rockefeller.
Debt – The next recession will appear when the interest payments come due on the national debt combined with the unfunded liabilities and the government can’t meet its obligations.
Income – Voters in Switzerland rejected a referendum for guaranteed minimum income as a veiled attempt to convert a quarter of their population into dependent wards of the state.
Immigration – The “anchor baby” loophole in the 14th Amendment must be closed to stop drive-by births to result in citizenship to children of parents from other countries.
Immigration – At least 480,000 people overstayed their visas last year, adding to a backlog of some 5 million total, and only 2,500 were deported last year, less than one out of every 2,000.
Social Security – Democrats love to blame the victims and bayonet the wounded, so Social Security may be on the verge of bankruptcy but now Democrats want to expand coverage.
Education – Capitalism works well because failure is punished and success rewarded, but our education system is shielded from competitive forces that produce excellence.
Education – American College Testing (ACT) reports that Common Core Standards do not adequately prepare students for college-level work.
Education – The Obama administration is proposing new rules to make it easier to forgive student loans, with a financial impact of as much as $43 billion over the next decade.
Citizenship – Citizens are tired of illegal immigrants subsidized for college, receive free health care, social security benefits, subsidized housing, and numerous other benefits, all free.
Gun Control – Facts are ignored in the Orlando gun control narrative: a Colt AR-15 was not used, guns were acquired legally, shooter passed background screening as security guard.
Culture – Moral societies define normal behavior, their degree of tolerance of deviancy, but do not actively support deviant behavior and treat it as a one-off perversion.
Sexuality – The tyrannies of LGBT and academia “gender studies” would have us believe that new genders, like planets, are being discovered all the time.
Leadership – “Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.” Colin Powell.
GWOT – Obama refuses to name “radical Islam” as the totalitarian ideology that seeks to destroy us, but is quick to sanitize the term from any documents so not to offend any Muslims.
GWOT – Until the Obama administration recognizes that Islam is at war with the U.S., we will continue to be surprised each time we are attacked by terrorists, born here or abroad.
GWOT – The latest Islamic radical massacre in Orlando, luckily averting a matching attack at the LA Gay Pride parade, was inspired by ISIS and Islamic punishment of homosexuality.
