Musings on the Week

Return to Common Sense

June 30, 2012

Liberty - “Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty.Ronald Reagan.

Politics – Despite what the political polls want you to believe, far more voters have woken up to Obama’s failings than Democrats realize, and they will not make the same mistake again.

Politics – The most important reason to vote for Mitt Romney in November is to ensure that Democrats do not appoint another liberal as the next Justice(s) on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Politics – Gallup rated the importance of issues which is being used by Obama to focus on the least important (social issues) to distract from the most important (economic issues).

Politics – Most of what we know about Barack Obama comes from his two autobiographies, but they are now being revealed as history revisions or completely fictional.

Politics – Leftists using the Cloward-Piven strategy have manufactured so many pseudo-crises to support their agenda that “crisis fatigue” has set in and messages are no longer effective.

Politics President Obama may have unintentionally committed political suicide by invoking “executive privilege” in the Fast & Furious investigation since he claimed no prior knowledge.

Trust – Gallup found just 25% trust newspapers, only 21% trust television news, only 21% trust banks and big business, only 21% trust labor unions and only 13% trust Congress.

Media – Newspapers continue to hemorrhage readers with only political ads in the 2012 election to save them, but I expect many newspapers will disappear after the next election.

Politics I expect that the 2012 Presidential election will be the most racist campaign, with baseless accusations used to distract voter attention from Obama’s record of failure.

Politics – Now that the Republican Party has settled on Mitt Romney, I expect that the TEA Party members will vote for him in November, but leave the Party to become Independents.

Liberty - “Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. Thomas Jefferson.

Government – Two cities, Maywood, CA and Sandy Springs, GA, are testing the limits of privatization by outsourcing services, without the corresponding debt or pension liabilities.

Government – The liberal vision for cities can be seen in Chicago, IL that is virtually bankrupt, with huge unfunded pension liabilities, high taxes, high crime, and a declining population.

Taxes – New York has the highest tax burden in the nation, including state and business income taxes, property taxes, etc. resulting in a net loss of 1.3 million residents.

Elections –A federal judge denied the DOJ request for an emergency restraining order to halt Florida’s non-citizen voter purge removing non-citizens from voter rolls.

Justice – Attorney General Eric Holder was cited in contempt of Congress on criminal and civil charges, after obstructing the investigation and delivering less than 10% of documents.

Jobs – The labor force is 365,000 workers smaller today that it was in June 2009, when the recession supposedly ended, missing 7.7 million workers at the previous participation rate.

Finance – The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) is required to be self-financing, but it has a negative net worth of $26 billion knowing the U.S. Treasury will bail it out.

Finance – Moody’s downgraded five major U.S. banks due to “significant exposure to the volatility and risk of outsized loans” and increased pressures from government regulations.

Entitlements – Our major entitlement programs are facing bankruptcy, so the longer we wait to address their financial sustainability, the more painful the required remedies will be.

Healthcare – Despite an administration marketing campaign to sell ObamaCare three years after it was passed, two thirds of Americans still want to repeal Obama’s legacy legislation.

Healthcare – The Supreme Court decision has transformed ObamaCare from an abuse of federalism into the largest middle class tax hike in history!

Healthcare – ObamaCare required legislative overreach to force Congressional passage, judicial overreach to redefine mandate as a tax, and executive overreach to enforce.

Energy – The Keystone XL pipeline original permit was submitted in 2008, then it was exhaustively engineered, studied, reviewed and now another study has been requested.

Environment – Global Warming has been disproven, so it is time for Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont to withdraw from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) “cap and trade” charade.

Welfare – Washington has spent roughly $12 trillion fighting poverty, and state and local governments added another $3 trillion, yet the poverty rate has never fallen below 10.5%.

Welfare – Spending on food stamps has doubled since 2008, 1 in 7 Americans receive them, so the USDA is encouraging Hispanics, the elderly, and the poor to sign up for food stamps.

Housing Banks own 450,000 foreclosed properties on top of another 2 million units in the foreclosure process, and an additional 1.7 million homes are in some form of delinquency.

Debt I expect that the country’s credit rating will again be downgraded after Congress debt ceiling discussions again fail to find sufficient spending cuts to halt deficit spending.

DeficitI expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy by 2012 and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.

Housing I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.

Liberty – “Our defense is in the preservation of the spirit which prizes liberty as a heritage of all men, in all lands, everywhere. Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism around your own doors. Abraham Lincoln.

Egypt – The Muslim Brotherhood used “facebook democrats” as visible frontmen for demonstrations paving the way for a stealth government takeover by Salafi Islamists.

United Nations – The G-20 summit resurrected the plan for “sustainable development” that mandates redistribution of wealth between countries, costing the US $100+ billion annually.

Israel I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas again in 2012 and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then annexing Gaza based on the concept of defensible borders.

Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists by 2012, and Obama will stand aside and not help defend this longtime ally.

Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea by the 2012, and Obama will be an unwitting accomplice as he abandons this ally in a time of war.
