Musings on the Week
Return to Common Sense
July 14, 2012
Freedom - “If ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.” Samuel Adams.
Politics – The best candidate for Vice President that Romney could select would be Newt Gingrich, who would provide Congressional experience and innovative conservative ideas.
Politics – Although Romney’s run-out-the-clock strategy worked in the Republican primary, this strategy may cost him the election because voters need a compelling reason to switch.
Politics – Once Republicans control the Senate, the logjam will end allowing up/down votes on budgets, defunding ObamaCare, reforming the tax code, and curbing the EPA.
Politics – Voter Question: “How did that vote for Obama work out for you? Are you better off today than when Barack Obama was elected? Is he making the economy better or worse?
Stimulus Promises – Actual results are worse than the do nothing case (wasting $1 trillion):
Politics – Americans tune out Obama today, despite all of his speeches, he has no workable plans to discuss: no economic plan, no jobs plan, no energy plan, and no immigration plan.
Media – American confidence in Television media is at a historic low (only 21%), and their stage-managed political polls sacrificed any credibility refusing to reflect mainstream reality.
Media – MSNBC continues to earn its low market share and ratings with its stable of partisan zealots as hosts and reliance on outlandish rhetoric and hyperbole to attract viewers.
Media – Newspapers continue to hemorrhage readers with only political ads in the 2012 election to save them, but I expect many newspapers will disappear after the next election.
Politics – I expect that the 2012 Presidential election will be the most racist campaign, with baseless accusations used to distract voter attention from Obama’s record of failure.
Politics – I expect that the TEA Party members will support Mitt Romney in the November election, delivering a landslide victory to the Republicans to repair the Obama damage!
Freedom - “Every step we take towards making the State our Caretaker of our lives, by that much we move toward making the State our Master.” Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Economy – The National Bureau of Economic Research defined the Bush Recession starting December 2007 and ending June 2009, but the Obama Recovery fumbled along ever since.
Taxes – The strategy to renew the Bush tax cuts 12 months at a time is blatant political nonsense to hype class warfare, while avoiding fixing the underlying tax code problems.
Jobs – June employment reported the 41st straight month the unemployment rate has been over 8% and in the previous 60 years, the jobless topped 8% a total of only 39 months.
Jobs – Since June 2009, the economy created 2.6 million jobs while 3.1 million signed up for disability benefits and in June, 85,000 left the workforce to enroll in the disability program.
Healthcare – Ignoring the Commerce Clause vs. the tax issue, the main reason to repeal ObamaCare is that it makes the health care s more scarce, more costly, and worse quality.
Healthcare – Repealing ObamaCare entirely is required to dissolve the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) “death panel” and repeal 13,000 pages of new regulations.
Healthcare – The President has declared ObamaCare is “here to stay,” but fourteen states so far have rejected plans to expand Medicaid or set up a state-run insurance “exchange.”
Marriage – The commissioner of the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC) wants to redefine families to include same-sex marriage and multiple-partner relationships.
Abortion – Can abortion be a state’s rights issue if someone can cross state lines to execute the murder of a defenseless infant and return to their home state immune from prosecution?
Civil Rights – The NAACP is at best: an African-American subcommittee of the Democrat National Committee; or at worst, a partisan hatchet man for the Democrat Party.
Immigration – Open immigration is the best solution providing immigrants take care of themselves and do not receive free health care or welfare and no anchor baby citizenship.
Debt – I expect that the country’s credit rating will again be downgraded after Congress debt ceiling discussions again fail to find sufficient spending cuts to halt deficit spending.
Deficit – I expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy by 2012 and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.
Housing – I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.
Freedom – “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” Abraham Lincoln.
Foreign Policy – Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have mismanaged international relations squandering respect across the globe, thus damaging our national security at home!
Israel – I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas again in 2012 and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then annexing Gaza based on the concept of defensible borders.
Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists by 2012, and Obama will stand aside and not help defend this longtime ally.
Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea by the 2012, and Obama will be an unwitting accomplice as he abandons this ally in a time of war.
