Musings on the Week
July 14, 2018
Politics – “No one will really understand politics until they understand that politicians are not trying to solve our problems. They are trying to solve their own problems – of which getting elected and re-elected are number one and number two. Whatever is number three is far behind." Thomas Sowell.
Politics – Republicans must educate the voting public on the real world impact of socialism and communism on its citizens with examples of harm inflicted by other countries.
Politics – I hope Congressman Jim Jordan is strong enough to withstand the character assassination based on 30 year old allegations and inferences about a nearby crime.
Politics – Trump may need his first term to reverse the damage done by Obama and to drain the swamp and his second term to make changes needed to Make America Great Again.
Politics – Democrats are dismissing the #WalkAway campaign as a propaganda movement, but something genuine and significant is happening and can’t be ignored by media elites.
Politics – The media and the Left over-used phony outrage as a means of virtue signaling and attacking President Trump forfeiting any credibility as objective public servants.
Media – One thing we learned from the 2016 election is that the mainstream media narrative is repackaging of Democrat talking points and not a reflection of American sentiment.
Politics – “Weighing benefits against costs is the way most people make decisions – and the way most businesses make decisions, if they want to stay in business. Only in government is any benefit, however small, considered to be worth any cost, however large.” Thomas Sowell.
Demographics – Most large U.S. cities are Democrat-led for decades and have taxed, spent and regulated on the “people’s behalf” with poor or even abysmal results, driving middle-class and working-class families out of the city to escape urban decay, poor-performing public schools, artificially high housing costs, rising crime rates with no end in sight.
Economy – History tells us that every time Socialism has been used as a form government it has been met with economic disaster, fascist police state tactics and a form of dictatorship.T
Finance – Bitcoins are pure speculation, bought by fools with the hope they can soon be sold to even bigger fools, making this current investment scam more of a bitcon!
Taxes – The CBO reports that federal income taxes are 9% higher than last year and the Treasury expects federal revenues will continue to exceed last year’s for rest of 2018.
Jobs – Trump’s colorblind jobs boom continues, creating new jobs for people of all races, ethnic groups and genders, increasing earnings, and decreasing unemployment.
Pensions – Just like Social Security, state and local governments are not putting aside enough money, or generating high enough returns, to fulfill their future obligations.
Judiciary – The nomination of a new Supreme Court Justice opens the floodgates of partisan political theatrics at confirmation hearings marked by ad-hominum attacks, hysterical predictions, and hyperbole based on unanswerable hypothetical questions.
Tobacco – The CDC estimates that the states will receive a record $27.5 billion from tobacco taxes and settlements, but less than 3% will be spent on prevention or cessation programs.
Immigration – America is actually a nation of settlers, who have allowed others to immigrate and assimilate into our American culture, not colonize and balkanize into ethnic enclaves.
Immigration – In low-skilled working immigrant families in the country, 51% (76% counting immigrant-led households with children) are collecting check(s) from our welfare services.
Immigration – The Supreme Court must revisit the 14th Amendment to reserve birthright citizenship to children of citizens, and eliminate this loophole for visitors and illegal aliens.
Environment – For the last 10,000 years Earth has been in the Holocene Interglacial, the latest of many warm cycles within the Pleistocene Ice Age, which includes small warm and cool cycles within the Holocene, including today’s Modern Warm Cycle (began around 1900).
Civil Rights – I applaud President Trump’s efforts to begin to eliminate the affirmative action programs and organizations that have out-lived their usefulness and have become divisive.
Education – Diversity is justified based on an unproven hypothesis that racial diversity raises the “level of academic and social discourse both inside and outside the classroom” and helps students “sharpen their critical thinking and analytical skills.”
Abortion – Contraception is pregnancy avoidance before conception (life begins), while abortion is pregnancy cessation after life (conception) has begun.
Politics – “It would be hard to think of a more ridiculous way to make decisions than to transfer those decisions to third parties who pay no price for being wrong. Yet that is what at least half of the bright ideas of the political left amount to." Thomas Sowell.
Trade – The “trade deficit” is not bad, in fact, not even a real problem because each trade is based on mutually-beneficial cooperation undertaken voluntarily.
Defense – Nation-building is not a military mission so until the State Department ramps up to handle this requirement, the U.S. will continue to win wars and lose the peace that follows.
Finance – It is time to stop funding ($1.8 billion) Multilateral Development Banks that invest in projects contrary to U.S. priorities such as climate alarmism and renewable energy fantasies.
Environment – UN Agenda 21 morphed into Agenda 2030, with 17 Sustainable Development Goals, is a stealth attempt to implement global governance and redistribute wealth.
Great Britain – The British “deep state” is doing everything and anything to undermine BREXIT delaying, obstructing, and clinging to European Union super-national governance.
