Musings on the Week

July 16, 2016

Principle - “In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.” Thomas Jefferson.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the economy, ObamaCare, and terrorism: zika outbreak in the U.S. and slow dissolve of European Union.

Politics – FBI Director Comey proved that Hillary Clinton met every requirement for a felony violation under Section 793(f) of the federal penal code, acting in gross negligence in the removal of highly classified information and transmitting it to those not authorized to view it.

Politics – Rasmussen found that just 22% of Likely U.S. Voters agree with Obama's statement that "there has never ever been any man or woman more qualified for this office than Hillary Clinton," while 65% disagree with the President's statement.

Media – At this point polls have a partisan bias of at least 10 points so should be ignored, while Rasmussen and Quinnipiac offer a more accurate reflection of public sentiment.

Media – Even the mainstream media is unable to hide the fact that Donald Trump is doing better in the political polls, especially in the swing states and with the Independent voters.

Government - The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. Thomas Jefferson.

Economy – Democrats have defined the “new normal” as economic growth of less than 2% of GDP which condemns the nation to an eighth year of a recovery of slow growth.

Budget – The U.S. fiscal situation has reached a point where it will be nearly impossible to increase economic growth to a level that will set the budget on a fiscally sustainable path.

Debt – The CBO has updated its forecast that federal debt held by the public will reach 141% of the nation’s GDP by 2046; up sharply from last year’s forecast of 111%.

Jobs – Job growth continues to lag population growth; so far this year, the economy has created a million new jobs, while the working age population has increased by 1.5 million.

Finance – Dodd-Frank is basically ObamaCare for the economy and the banking industry, making Americans less prosperous with fewer choices, higher costs and less freedom.

Transportation – Despite huge subsidies and other forms of economic jump-starting, sales of electric cars are not just flat, they’re down by about 5%.

Healthcare – ObamaCare is intentionally driving its flawed-design insurance co-ops into bankruptcy as a way to justify replacing with single-payer government provided healthcare.

Judiciary – Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s partisan criticism makes her the poster child for introduction of federal judge mandatory retirement or term limits.

Civil Rights – Racism and the perception of social disparity is being used as a pretext to undermine the rule of law, much like civil rights issues created havoc in the 60s and 70s.

Civil Rights – The black civil rights movement has gone from fighting for the right of black people to attend college to defending black criminals who argue with then attack police.

Civil Rights – BlackLivesMatter is a black supremacy hate group much like the Ku Klux Klan is a white supremacy hate group and both should be treated as armed criminal organizations.

Civil Rights – BlackLivesMatter is far worse than useless running police out o neighborhoods ensures black on black violence increases destroying own communities and killing neighbors.

Crime – With Barack Obama as our President and the emergence of racist BlackLivesMatter, it is no surprise that hate crimes have erupted and white police are now targeted for attacks.

Culture – I disagree with many of the court decisions, but I can tolerate however you want to live your life as long as you don’t hurt anyone else and I don’t have to subsidize it.

Abortion – The International Planned Parenthood Federation reported that they killed 964,325 babies in 2015, while subsidized to the tune of $500 million a year by the federal government.

Welfare – The number of people receiving food stamps has declined sharply due to the reinstatement of work requirements, restored in a total of 40 states.

Defense “For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security. Thomas Jefferson.

Foreign Policy – Obama: rejected American exceptionalism, diminished American power, demoralized our democratic allies, unleashed Russian President Vladimir Putin, enabled China’s adventurism, helped Iran become a nuclear power, turned a blind eye to radical Islam and invited danger by conveying American weakness.

Trade – The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a managed trade deal that rewrites the rules for the world’s economy, seeking to flatten our nation’s regulations and laws, superseding sovereignty for signatories, while ignoring the de facto tariffs that will remain on U.S. goods.

Europe – The real European Union power is in the hands of unelected functionaries and bureaucrats who pass laws and regulations that override laws passed by member nations.
