Musings on the Week
Musings on the Week
July 27, 2013
Success – “I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.” Bill Cosby.
Politics – Barack Obama, our first African-American President, has increased racial tensions with his partisan preconceived conclusions, his racialist viewpoint, and his biased remarks.
Politics – Only a leftist would refuse to enforce a law as written and when the House offers to amend the law to permit the delay, the President threatens to veto the amended law!
Politics – The Democrat strategy to get scandals out, finished, and forgotten by the 2014 election has backfired with revelations dripping out keeping the scandals in the public view.
Politics – Obama claims Republicans don’t have any economic ideas, but refuses to acknowledge that all the Republican House good ideas go to the Democrat Senate to die.
Media – As new technologies emerge, I expect Twitter will go the way of telephone party lines doomed by personal privacy issues and a lack of any viable business case.
Media – The MSM downfall has already begun, but I expect this avalanche to continue more layoffs at the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the TV Network News departments.
Prosperity – “When a man arrives at great prosperity God did it: when he falls into disaster he did it himself.” Mark Twain.
Deficit – Detroit committed “suicide by government” overdosing on a combination of Great Society big spenders, race hustlers, crooks, public-sector unions, and ineffectual reformers.
Deficit – Moody’s Investor Services downgraded the bond ratings of two more major cities, Chicago and Cincinnati, perhaps predicting the next two cities to declare bankruptcy.
Labor – Since 2011, when Wisconsin passed their “budget-repair bill” limiting public sector bargaining and union dues collection, union membership has declined by 50% or more.
Housing – The Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) completed 1.2 million mortgage modifications (70% less than target), but more than 306,000 have re-defaulted.
Immigration – The 1986 amnesty bill to stop illegal immigration was based on secure borders, but borders were never secured and illegal immigration increased – promises never kept.
Entitlements – The lifeline programs was to ensure low income households had access to telephone, and now has evolved into an unaffordable cell phone personal entitlement.
Civil Rights – This administration is wedded to the temporary legal measures put in place to rectify 1960’s injustices, but is unwilling to re-examine conditions based on 2013 realities.
Crime – For those who are media impaired: In the Zimmerman trial the defendant was found not guilty because the victim was being assaulted and shot the criminal in self-defense.
Crime – The “Justice for Travon” rallies are Astroturf exercises composed of the usual leftist suspects (“have demonstration will travel”) cobbled together with anti-American agenda.
Abortion – Opposition to abortion after six months has never dropped below 80% and in 2011, American opposition to abortions after the first trimester has risen to 71%.
Education – Common Core Curriculum emphasizes social justice, environmentalism, and sex education, while de-emphasizing civics education, religion, values, and responsibility.
Deficit – I expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.
Housing – I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.
Failure – “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” Colin Powell.
Foreign Policy – Caroline Kennedy is a prime example of political patronage inflicted on our diplomatic corps, since she doesn’t speak Japanese and never worked in foreign service.
GWOT – al-Qaeda has not successfully attacked the United States since 9/11/2001, but over sixty attempts have been thwarted since 9/11 by law enforcement and homeland security.
Libya – Congress has finally gotten around to asking the military leaders who gave them the explicit order to stand-down and abandon the Americans under attack in Benghazi?
Israel – I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then re-annexing Gaza based on defensible borders and 1920 San Remo Conference.
Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists, and Obama will talk a lot, but stand aside and refuse to help defend this longtime ally.
Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea, and Obama will be “unable” to support our troops and will negotiate for a stalemate.
