Musings on the Week
Musings on the Week
July 19, 2014
Politics – “I always cheer
up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if
they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument
left.” Margaret Thatcher.
Politics
– Obama’s
legacy has become clear, and not one of leadership: stage-managed photo-ops, political fundraisers, most personal vacations taken,
and most rounds of golf.
Politics – The Obama Creed is: “Neither scandal nor crisis nor disaster, foreign or domestic, stays this president from taking his recreation and vacations.”
Politics
– John Boehner is filing a lawsuit accusing the President of violating the Constitution
by exceeding his Presidential authority and modifying
and ignoring laws passed by Congress.
Politics
– President Obama is addicted
to his tele-prompter, willing to talk and fund raise about ANYTHING
BUT the economy and jobs, the two most important American priorities.
Politics
– Boehner's
lawsuit against the President is being mocked by the same people who
dismissed the challenge to Obama's imperial ways, that the Supreme Court upheld
9-0.
Scandals
– Attorney General Eric Holder, himself
held in contempt in the Fast and Furious scandal investigation, will never allow an
“independent” counsel to investigate the IRS.
Politics - This week’s distractions from
the stagnant economy and ObamaCare: illegal alien
children dispersed across the nation and expansion
of the Islamic caliphate in Syria and Iraq.
Politics – The Republican establishment defeated
most challenges in this year's primaries, and argue the party’s right wing is in retreat,
but the
establishment also moved to the right.
Socialism – “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money.” Margaret Thatcher.
Economy –
Is
the administration building a Cloward-Piven house-of-cards: explosion of debt, quantitative
easing, dollar devaluing, unfunded benefits designed to collapse economy?
Commerce –
Internet is
the most unregulated feature of the 21st century global economy
– and successful precisely because of its
unregulated, decentralized, distributed nature.
Finance –
Taxpayers will soon learn the meaning of
"no free lunch," because taxes will soar to pay for Obama's failed Keynesian
spending binge, masked by Fed
monetary manipulation.
Jobs – Americans go where the jobs are and
job creation is happening at twice the pace in right-to-work
states and states with lower income tax rates (the
lower the better).
Environment –
Australia is
the first major power to vote to repeal its carbon tax
because it found it harms consumers in exchange for no corresponding
environmental benefits.
Immigration –
Initial interviews
found that 219 of the 230 total migrants cited the primary reason for
migrating the U.S. was the perception of immigration laws granting free passes.
Immigration – The Obama administration will catch over 90,000 illegal immigrant children by the end of the current budget year, but fewer than 2,000 will be
returned to their countries.
Immigration – Until
the 14th Amendment is clarified and the “anchor baby” provision is eliminated,
America will remain a magnet for illegal aliens seeking a shortcut to
citizenship.
Immigration –
A quick fix
for the immigration blitz is to subtract the costs
associated with housing and returning a country’s illegal immigrants
directly from the country’s foreign aid.
Healthcare – Vermont is the pilot
for a single-payer healthcare system, but Green
Mountain Care quickly discovered, instead of $500 million savings, a need for a
$2 billion tax hike.
Healthcare – ObamaCare financials have
been dishonest
delivering low premiums with high federal subsidies and bailing out healthcare
company losses with “risk corridors”
adjustments.
Feminism –
Psychology
Today survey
found that the unhappiest workers are: female, 42 years
old, unmarried, a household income under $100,000, and work in a professional
position.
Sexuality – CDC reports that only 1.6% of adults are homosexual and .7% are bisexual,
but they have greatly elevated health risks including HIV/AIDS, HPV, STDs, anal cancer,
hepatitis, substance abuse, depression, suicide, substance abuse, and domestic
violence.
Civil Rights – Eric Holder accuses
Republicans of racism because of criticism of policies, but Republicans oppose administration leftist ideas
and not all leftists are black and not all blacks are
leftist, so only ideological opposition – racism only exists in
Obama’s Bizarro-land.
Terrorism – “Democratic nations must try to find ways to starve the terrorist and the hijacker of the oxygen of publicity on which they depend.” Margaret Thatcher.
GWOT – One of the first acts of the caliphate,
the Islamic State, was to declare a jihad to cleanse
out Muslim “apostates” and
“hypocrites” from the ranks of the new state.
Libya – Will anyone
ever be held personally accountable for the lack of
adequate security, lack of military response, and false media narrative, or is
this another
successful cover-up?
Foreign Policy – President Obama has squandered American
credibility in foreign affairs, and the U.S is no long a power-player
with confidence in
reliability and commitment at a low.
