Musings on the Week
August 19, 2017
Government – “You can’t be for big government, big taxes, and big bureaucracy and still be for the little guy.” Ronald Reagan.
Politics – Democrats never acknowledge problems of the past (50, 100, 150 years ago) being fixed, even though the problems no longer exist, so more intrusive policies are proposed.
Politics – Maxine Waters is the most vicious racist and socialist in the U.S. Congress, but she is far from alone in her ideas and political orientation.
Politics – “Alt-left” and “Alt-right” are both made-up terms coined by the media suggesting the existence of a similar ideological extremist, fringe movement.
Politics – Leftist protests that turned violent: Oakland 2009, Akron 2009, Pittsburgh 2009, Santa Cruz 2010, Oakland 2010, Los Angeles 2010, Oakland 2011, Chicago 2012, Anaheim 2012, Brooklyn 2013, Ferguson 2014, New York City 2014, Baltimore 2015, Anaheim 2016, Chicago 2016, St Paul 2016, Milwaukee 2016, Charlotte 2016, Standing Rock 2016, Oakland 2016, Portland 2016, Washington DC 2017, Berkeley 2017, Anaheim 2017, Berkeley (again) 2017, Berkeley (again again) 2017, Olympia 2017, and Portland 2017.
Politics – The liberal mainstream media is “chasing its own tail” trying to wordsmith President Trump’s denunciation of all the violence, by both sides, at the Charlottesville protest.
Politics – President Obama was a triumph of identify politics driven by ideology, unfortunately every one of his leftist ideas failed to achieve its objectives and must now be dismantled.
Politics – If Civil War monuments must be removed they defended slavery, then mustn’t the Democrat party be dismantled since it was the party of the South that defended slavery?
Politics – Leftists will “jump the shark” when they epand their history revisionism to condemn Washington and Jefferson who owned slaves but despite this became our Founding Fathers.
Politics – By today’s politically correct spectrum, shouldn’t the National Museum of African American History and Culture be closed because it is exclusionary and discriminatory?
Political – If people and organizations can be condemned for their past behavior, the racist, southern, KKK abetting Democrats should be disbanded and discarded on the waste heap.
Politics – Instead of learning from their defeat, the Democrat party, its elected officials and a sizable portion of its base, have convinced themselves that a Presidential election was illegitimate, so they have staked their hopes on a coup to undo it all.
Media – Contrary to the media narrative, the United States is not headed for another Civil War, but instead the left is doing everything they can to forment conditions for a Civil War.
Media – President Trump was right, and is still right, to denounce the racism and extremism of both sides of the Charlottesville protest and not support the one-sided media narrative.
Media – Luckily the Trump supporters are much smarter than the mindless leftists seeing right through the manufactured Charlottesville outrage over what President Trump “shoulda said.”
Jobs – “I believe the best social program is a job.” Ronald Reagan.
Finance – Time to privatize the third Bank of the United States, the Federal Reserve, because it is ineffectual at its job of long term price stability and preserving the value of the dollar
Jobs – The labor market in which employers are struggling to find workers draws hundreds of thousands back into the labor force, which includes people working and looking for jobs.
Jobs – Cities that endorsed $15 minimum wage are realizing that forcing businesses to raise wages for low-skilled workers costs jobs and hurts the very people it's supposed to help.
Income – Income inequality is a natural byproduct of a vibrant economy, as long as income mobility is unimpeded allowing free flow up and down the income ladder.
Infrastructure – President Trump explained to get a highway built, you needed “16 different approvals involving nine different federal agencies governed by 29 different statues.”
Feminism - Research on gender-distinct personality differences across diverse cultures finds gender differences have remained consistent both through generations and across nations.
Energy - The renewable future assumes that “eco-friendly alternatives” can provide reliable, affordable energy 24/7/365, even during windless, sunless weeks and cold, dry growing seasons, but instead we have energy when nature cooperates, instead of when we need it.
Welfare – The GAO tracked 6,000 Kansas families who left welfare in 2011 after instituting new work requirements, and families who left government assistance saw their incomes double within one year of leaving welfare, and triple within four years.
Abortion – Planned Parenthood performs cancer screenings (i.e. pap smears and manual breast exams, not mammograms), STI screenings, pregnancy tests, etc., all of which you could get at any health clinic in America that doesn't also perform abortions.
Civil Rights – Why condemn White Supremacists, why not also condemn Black Supremacists (BLM) and Hispanic Supremacists (La Raza) and anti-American Supremacists (Antifa)?
Crime – Until we unleash the police to maintain order in our streets, mob riots may continue and get more violent until we decide to lock up all the perpetrators as soon as they act out.
Accountability – “We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.” Ronald Reagan.
GWOT – It is time for Trump to formally declare a War on Global Terrorism, by whatever name works, with formal rules of engagement, and legitimize whatever tactics are appropriate.
Spain – The Barcelona vehicular Islamic jihadi attack was just another reminder that the Global War on Terror is still very alive and very deadly.
Korea – People forget that the two Koreas are still technically at war, having signed an armistice but never a peace treaty officially ending the UN police action.
