Musings on the Week
September 2, 2017
Government – "In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.” James Madison.
Politics – If you believe the progressive narrative, the USA is disintegrating into unhappy racial and working classes, but if you believe your own senses, consumer confidence and business confidence is rising and people are finally recovering from the Obama Great Recession.
Politics – I don’t understand how the Democrat Party, who at its core endorses socialism and communism / fascism to control the masses, how they spawned anti-fa (anti-fascists)?
Politics – At the Berkeley street riots to shut down free speech, 13 arrests were made and 11 have been identified as professional anarchists, paid to protest by Marxist front groups.
Politics – Multiple Anti-fa groups are planning a nationwide insurrection on America, planned for November 4, 2017, to "take to the streets and public squares in cities and towns across the country continuing day after day and night after night until our DEMAND is met."
Politics – After months of FBI investigation, there is still not a shred of evidence linking Donald Trump or of anyone in his administration to any Russia collusion impacting the 2016 election!
Media – The press has a tendency to prey on anxiety and magnify it, and when the predicted horror fails to materialize on time and or at the fully apocalyptic scale, the irresponsible media herd moves on to foment the next fear.
Media – The hysterical mainstream media is so committed to non-stop anti-Trump mania that it resembles a rehearsal for the satirical site The Onion.
Media – Donald Trump wins when he communicates directly to the American people via twitter, and loses when he trusts the mainstream media to objectively report his message.
Media – Media polls are totally inaccurate because Trump voters don't get polling calls or talk to pollsters, the same hidden vote that showed up in 2016 to all the experts' surprise.
Gun Control – "Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." James Madison.
Economy – During President Trump’s first full quarter-year in office, gross domestic product (GDP) growth was just revised upward to3%.
Insurance – FEMA runs the National Insurance Program, which since 1968 has insured people in coastal flood zones against catastrophic loss, but the NFIP is all but bankrupt.
Labor – Union power now completely resides in the political sphere, providing dollars and muscle for the Democrats, and maintaining lofty unionization levels in the public sector.
Labor – More than one of every three Chicago city workers made $100,000 or more last year, including 36 who topped Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s $216,210 salary.
Pensions – Membership for state and local public pensions grew to 20.4 million with pensioners receiving $286 billion, from tax revenues and increasingly from bond issuance, producing an unfunded liability of $4.6 Trillion and another $3.7 trillion of muni-bond debt.
Immigration – Trump Administration is threatening to suspend visas from countries that refuse to take their illegal immigrants, criminals, and even terrorist citizens back after deportation.
Education – Universities that tolerated and even enabled progressive intimidation and violence are suffering the consequences of decreased enrollments and alumni donations.
Elections – The National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), popularly called “Motor-Voter,” enables voter fraud by providing government identification with no check of citizenship.
Elections – More than 14,000 votes were cast in Chicago during the 2016 general election than there were voters to cast them, according to the Chicago Board of Elections.
Sports – The National Football League is a meritocracy where blacks make up 13% of the U.S. population and about 70% of the NFL roster, while the NFL fan base is 83% white and some black players see the NFL as a platform for social change, but many of their fans do not.
Abortion – Nationally, Gallup finds that just 29% of Americans agree with abortion-on-demand advocates that abortion should be legal under any circumstances.
Crime – The urban revival may be ending, as rising urban crime coupled with rising housing prices is causing suburbs to grow faster in two-thirds of America’s large metropolitan areas.
Defense – "A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained in arms, is the best most natural defense of a free country." James Madison.
Middle East – It is not in America’s national interest to help the Middle East fighting to redraw national boundaries into religious ones: Sunni-stan (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain); Shiia-stan (Tran, Iraq); Kurdi-stan (Syria, Turkey); Alewite-stan (Syria, Lebanon); and Israel, of course!
Russia - Over the past six months, the Moscow Exchange, Russia’s largest stock market, has fallen 11%, the worst-performing stock market in the world.
