Musings on the Week
bMusings on the Week
September 10, 2016
Restoration – “America's present need is not heroics but healing; not nostrums but normalcy; not revolution but restoration.” Warren G. Harding.
Politics - This week’s distractions from the economy, ObamaCare, and terrorism: Hillary Clinton coughing fits and President Obama snubs at G20 meeting.
Politics – A majority of Clinton's supporters say they're less excited about voting this year than usual (55%) while most of Trump's backers say they're more excited this time around (56%).
Politics – Hillary Clinton’s strategy to avoid any contact with the media has resulted in “death by a thousand cuts” as each weekly document release further erodes her credibility.
Politics - The Clinton Foundation is a slush fund and a fake charity that took in fortunes, paid out pittances and kept the country’s unwanted royal family and those around them paid.
Politics – Each subsequent State Department email dump show Hillary Clinton incapable of telling the whole truth about anything and her confidants, Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills, should have adjacent cells in federal prison for the crimes and the ongoing cover-ups.
Politics – Donald Trump calls Hillary Clinton “Crooked Hillary” and each successive email dump confirms lie after lie, incompetence after incompetence, corruption and corruption.
Politics – No matter what Trump does, the media claims it’s proof he’s a racist: if he ignores black voters, that makes him a racist; if he appeals for black votes in front of a largely white audience, that’s proof that he’s a racist; and if he goes to a majority black area to speak at a mostly black church, that’s the most racist thing of all!
Media – The mainstream media has abandoned any façade of political objectivity, so they should not be surprised that they no longer receive the professional honor and respect.
Taxes - “I don't know what to do or where to turn in this taxation matter. Somewhere there must be a book that tells all about it, where I could go to straighten it out in my mind. But I don't know where the book is, and maybe I couldn't read it if I found it.” Warren G. Harding.
Economy - The economic recovery narrative has been sold by corporate mouthpieces, feckless politicians, Too Big To Trust Wall Street bankers, Federal Reserve puppets, and government apparatchiks flogging manipulated data as proof of economic advancement.
Economy – Kansas dropped their tax rate, cut sales taxes, and eliminated business ownership tax to encourage growth and entrepreneurship and GDP shows steady, albeit modest, growth, unemployment dropped to 4.1%, new business formation increased by 5%.
Jobs – The under-employment measure adds the unemployment rate plus the share of adults who are working part time but want to work full time, now stands at 13.2%.
Income – The free market is about turning scarcity into abundance, and income inequality provides the incentive for creative people to gamble on new ideas.
Taxes – In 2014, estate tax collected only .43% of all federal revenues, and Donald Trump vows to kill this tax while Hillary Clinton vows to raise this tax rate hurting small businesses.
Welfare - When the economy is actually growing and employment is really below 5%, the percentage of Americans on food stamps is below 8%, not the 14% we see today.
Healthcare - ObamaCare is broken beyond repair: costs twice what was estimated, insured half the promised coverage, reversed downward trend in health care inflation while costing insurers so much money that they have been forced to abandon its exchanges.
Healthcare – In 2017, Alabama, Alaska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Wyoming residents will only have a single company offering healthcare plans to choose in ObamaCare.
Energy – It is time for government to remove the thumb (subsidies, regulations, etc.) from the scales to allow energy alternatives compete on free market price and industry availability.
Environment – There has never been a connection established between climate change and extreme weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, droughts, etc..
Environment – Fewer than 10% of Americans believe that human activity is causing the globe to warm, a position contrary to what many politicians embrace.
Environment – Obama will join the UN Paris Climate Agreement, but unfortunately treaties require Senate approval and Obama knows the climate commitments are unacceptable.
Elections – There is no doubt that there will be Democrat voter fraud in this election, like all elections, but the question is whether the quantity will be sufficient to swing any races.
Elections – If we really wanted honest elections, we would revert to paper ballots for auditability, and invest long term in a secure online voting system for use across the U.S.
Civil Rights – Micro-aggressions are a hyper-sensitive over-reaction to normal speech, misinterpreting innocent remarks as hostile intent to degrade without any speaker intent.
Civil Rights – “Black Lies Matter” is based on a lie: an epidemic of racially driven police shootings, but statistics show that police officers are less likely to shoot blacks than whites.
Friends – “I have no trouble with my enemies. I can take care of my enemies in a fight. But my friends, my goddamned friends, they're the ones who keep me walking the floor at nights!” Warren G. Harding.
GWOT – The founder of ISIS, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, targets Christians for execution, rape and crucifixion, promising to march to Rome “breaking the crosses” of Christians.
Europe – The European Union is a bureaucratic overlay on the governments of its members which produces no separate set of goods and services; it only raises the economic costs on its member nations through increased regulations, taxes and redistribution.
Portugal - 16 years ago, the possession of all drugs, everything from marijuana to heroin, was decriminalized so authorities don't arrest anyone found holding less than a 10-day supply.
