Musings on the Week

Musings on the Week

September 26, 2015

Patriotism - “Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism.” George Washington.

Politics – Three in four Americans (75%) last year perceived corruption as widespread in the country’s government, a trend largely stable since the Obama administration took office.

Politics – Obama, and ex-community activist, is unleashing more “behavioral economists” to use data mining to manipulate consumer behavior and thereby push his leftist agenda.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the sluggish economy and ObamaCare: suspension for home made” school clock/bomb and the Pope’s misinformed secular agenda.

Politics – When will Hillary Clinton be formally charged with the same and worse offenses that General Petraeus was convicted, and will Barack Obama feel obligated to pardon her?

Politics – When Hillary Clinton finally drops out, she will have spent a third of her adult life trying to become President, but money cannot make an unlikable candidate electable.

Politics – Bernie Sanders is leading the leftist Democrat candidates proposing more ways to spend money we don’t have on unaffordable government programs we don’t need.

Politics – I am sorry to see Scott Walker drop out of the Republican primary, a victim of too many candidates lingering too long, diluting campaign funds, and issue distractions.

Politics – Donald Trump’s populist bubble burst at the last debate and support evaporated as national issues are more fully examined and political bombast is devalued.

Politics – Donald Trump does not need to defend Barack Obama’s reputation, intentionally vague from the very beginning by Obama since he first competed on the national stage.

Politics – Dr. Ben Carson was correct when he highlighted that Islam and democracy are incompatible and Islamic Sharia is in direct conflict with the U.S. Constitution in many areas.

Freedom - “If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.” George Washington.

Finance – American savers are upset at the Federal Reserve for artificially maintaining the interest rates at zero, which only benefits big business, corporations and Wall Street.

Finance – Dodd-Frank imposes large compliance costs on small community banks, institutionalizes “too big to fail,” and drives up the cost of banking services to consumers.

Income – Census reports real median household income dropped 1.5% last year, the sixth year out of the last seven in which median income fell, shrinking more than 9% since 2007.

Poverty – Census reports a small increase in the number of Americans classified as poor and an unchanged poverty rate, more than 2% above its level before the Great Recession.

Recycling – Unfortunately the cost of collecting and processing recyclable materials far outweighs their value as a commodity that can be sold back to industry.

Environment – No surprise that 100% of government and corporate research grants to prove human activities and burning fossil fuels are the driving mechanisms causing global warming.

Environment – Climatism is based on faulty computer models that predict cataclysms, but they don’t reflect normal climate change and mankind barely makes a miniscule impact

Environment – The EPA has targeted another trace “greenhouse gas,” methane, with negligible impact on climate, for regulation because if it can be measured, it can be taxed.

Healthcare – ObamaCare created health insurance cooperatives to operate in the individual and small group markets, and they are all failing and unable to show a profit.

Crime – Baltimore, along with other cities controlled by Democrats, continue to break records; reaching new heights of blacks murdering blacks.

Justice – The Republican’s only success since Obama has been elected has been to clog the judicial pipeline preventing more liberal activist judges from being nominated.

Abortion – After conception a fetus either becomes the source of our hopes and dreams, or an inconvenient mistake to be forcibly removed and a candidate for dismemberment.

Religion – The Pope has consistently spoken out against abortion, same-sex marriage, transgenderism, euthanasia, in vitro fertilization, contraception, and secular relativism, and has stridently defended traditional marriage and the family as the cornerstones of society.

Religion – I am a non-practicing Catholic due to incomprehensible decisions by the church, and this politicized Pope’s support for climate change reinforces my decision to stay away.

Defense - To be prepared for war is one of the most effective means of preserving peace.” George Washington.

GWOT – President Obama still does not accept that the U.S. is at war with Islamic jihadists and that the military prison camp in Guantanamo is for prisoners-of-war and must stay open.

Middle East - Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Cyprus, and Australia have all defied political correctness by wanting to accept Christian refugees only.

Middle East – The U.S. should only accept Christian refugees which would rescue them from Muslim genocide while avoiding refugees joining to the homegrown American jihadists.
