Musings on the Week

America - Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children's children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.” Theodore Roosevelt.

Politics – An overwhelming 79% of Americans think Congress is out of touch with the average U.S. resident and 52% think most members of Congress are corrupt.

Politics – With John Boehner leaving, Republicans finally have an opportunity to elect a conservative House leader more representative of the majority, and not just the next in line.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the sluggish economy and ObamaCare: NASA discovery of water likely on Mars and Putin takes military leadership role in Syria.

Media – The latest Gallup polls finds that only 7% of Americans declare they have a “great deal” of trust in the media, with those responding “none” matched an all time high of 24%.

Media - According the poll by Suffolk University, Fox was the most trusted news source by 23% of respondents, followed by CNN at 15%, NBC at 10%, and only 5% at MSNBC.

Politics - Three politicians, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump (U.S.) and Jeremy Corbyn (U.K.), are following the great Marxist, Groucho, in proclaiming that “Whatever it is, I’m against it.”

Politics – It is really sad that the best Democrats can put forth as candidates for President are gaffe-prone Joe Biden, serial liar Hillary Clinton, and socialist Bernie Sanders.

Politics – Hillary Clinton fans dread Carly Fiorina as an opponent, since she is everything Hillary is not: a communicator, a record of achievement, and not afraid to take positions.

Politics – It is very hard to objectively compare and contrast the many GOP Presidential candidates, so here is a Presidential Candidates Comparison for your use.

Politics – Sooner or later, the lack of political experience will drag down Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina, and Ben Carson, leaving a Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio finale for the nomination.

America - “The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first and love of soft living and the get-rich-quick theory of life.” Theodore Roosevelt.

Economy – The economy continues to limp along as the labor force participation declines to 38 year low, as more people dropped out of the workforce than the number of new jobs.

Budget – The CBO calculates the FY 2016 deficit at $474 billion which is his lowest during his term, but the eighth highest deficit in history and higher than any previous President.

Budget – The GOP must hold President Obama accountable for his political choices, daring him to shutdown the federal government rather than accept the people’s budget priorities.

Labor - Typical union member is more likely to work for government than private sector business, with 8 million union workers in the public sector and 7.4 million in the private sector.

Immigration – Our immigration system is not broken; it only lacks the appropriate resources and political will to actually enforce the existing laws to achieve the desired results.

Immigration – Resettling large numbers of people into our Western society with the desire to remake it in their image is neither in our interests nor appropriate to our cultural responsibility.

Immigration – In 2014, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services applied exemptions to 1,519 foreigners with ties to terrorist organizations who applied for discretionary relief.

Energy – If carbon-free, inexhaustible, and low-cost energy is the goal, then nuclear energy may be the preferred energy source for the long-range future.

Environment – The New York Times uncovered that even if every country lived up to its current carbon reduction pledges, it wouldn’t make any difference to our climate.

Environment – The United Nations intends to replace Capitalism and Free Enterprise with its Green Economy, recently renamed Sustainable Development (aka Agenda 21 on Steroids).

Environment – The EPA finalized tighter limits on ground-level ozone levels with little benefit, but enormous costs suggest we have reached a point of massively diminishing returns.

Abortion – Democrats support Freedom of Choice, but they really mean Freedom from Consequences, offering judgment-free abortions-on-demand ignoring the life of the baby.

Abortion - Despite a 20% decline in the number of abortions between 2000 and 2011, the number Planned Parenthood performed during that time increased from 197,070 to 333,964, thereby doubling its share of the abortion market from 15% in 2000 to 32% in 2011.

America - A man who is good enough to shed his blood for the country is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards.” Theodore Roosevelt.

Foreign Policy – Barack Obama, who “appeases from behind,” created a power vacuum that Putin’s Russia and Xi’s China are more than willing to fill with their expansionist plans.

United Nations – I have no desire to become a “global citizen and I have no desire to deviate from the United States combination of republican governance, culture, and norms.

GWOT – Barack Obama should have listened to the King of Jordan who labeled the struggle against “outlaws of Islam” as a Third World War… if only our President heard the message!

GWOT – Islam is based on an antiquated view of women that regards them as their inferiors and unaccompanied women are viewed as “fair game” since rape is not a crime.

Military – Obama is dedicated to integrating women into combat units, regardless of facts, reason or logic, and willing to lower standards until his social engineering quota is met.

Afghanistan – Once again Obama has “snatched defeat from the jaws of victory” in Afghanistan as the Taliban demonstrates by their actions that his “success” is another farce.

Refugees – There must be a good reason why most of the Muslim countries have refused to accept ANY of the Syrian war refugees, foisting them instead on a reluctant Europe.
