Musings on the Week
October 11, 2014
Freedom - “The American free market system is the greatest engine of prosperity and opportunity that the world has ever seen. Freedom works.” Ted Cruz.
Politics – The lasting legacy of Obama will be that he has largely discredited the idea of big government and an un-ending list of political scandals across the Executive branch.
Politics - The latest IBD/TIPP poll found that 53% characterize Obama's Presidency as a failure and half of those who live in states that voted for Obama say that his presidency is failing.
Politics – Like “rats leaving a sinking ship,” Obama’s closest advisors are distancing themselves from him during this election, separating themselves from his bad decisions.
Politics - Barack Obama spends a great deal of time on fund-raising for the Democrats, but not on election endorsements since his record and support is toxic during this 2014 election.
Politics – I sure hope all the travel expenses associated with Obama’s fundraising is a political event and should be paid for by the Democrat party and not the taxpayers.
Politics - Vote Smart a national non-partisan research organization, is offering voters research on every candidate and incumbent running for office – ABOVE ALL, BE SURE TO VOTE!
Politics - This week’s distractions from the stagnant economy and ObamaCare: ebola hysteria and scrambling to respond to the “new and improved” Global War on Terror.
Politics – If book sales are any indication of political popularity, Hillary Clinton is in big trouble since her recent book tour ended up with 600,000 books being returned to the publisher.
Politics – Until now Republicans have only been able to slow down the damage being done by democrats, but after 2014 Republicans will be able to stop any further damage and prepare to repeal and repair the damage done by Progressives after the 2016 election.
Freedom - “The essence of the conservative message should be we want a dynamic nation where anybody with nothing can achieve anything.” Ted Cruz.
Economy - When job creation is compared to people leaving the work force, it is negative, which explains why Americans remain dissatisfied with the economy and the administration.
Deficit – The U.S. budget deficit was a six-year-low of $486 billion in the just-ended fiscal 2014, which is also the six lowest in U.S. history since Obama owns all deficit records!
Jobs – Obama’s focus on the “official” unemployment rate masks the real jobs problem: the huge number of workers who have given up trying to find a job and left the work force.
Jobs - The Fed found the persistent increase in unemployment during the Great Recession can be accounted for by unprecedented extensions of unemployment benefit eligibility.
Labor – The AFL-CIO spent more than $30 million on politics, primarily progressive, during the past year, using money from workers to support political causes across the country.
Healthcare – Obama refuses to bar entry to the U.S. by people from countries where the ebola epidemic rages, putting safety of American people second to political appearances.
Healthcare - The CDC bans “communicable diseases of public health significance” (syphilis, gonorrhea, and other STDs), but lifted the ban on AIDS cases from entering the United States.
Healthcare – In the U.S. alone, there are nearly 20 million cases of new sexually transmitted infections yearly, from just eight viruses and bacteria (HPV, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, genital herpes, syphilis, HIV, and HBV).
Energy – Since 2008, oil production in the United States has increased by 70% and this increase has stabilized world oil prices and kept prices at the pump low.
Energy – More than 72 gigawatts of electrical generating capacity have already, or are now set to retire, shuttering over one fifth of the U.S.’s capacity, because of EPA regulations.
Environment – Despite climate hysteria, global temperatures are cooling, rains are at normal or above normal levels, and overall drought conditions have fallen to the lowest levels in decades, producing near-record crops of corn, soybeans and wheat at lower prices.
Pensions - Public sector pensions at the state, county, and local levels are facing $2 trillion to $4 trillion in unfunded liabilities while they continue to skip scheduled payments, assume ridiculous rates of return, and are increasing benefits to employees to mask their problems.
Poverty – Government measures “success” by the growth of programs: based on inputs, how much money are we spending, how many programs are we creating, how many people are we putting on these programs; not on outcomes: how many people are leaving poverty?
Marriage – The will of the People is reflected in laws passed by duly elected representatives, not interpreted by unelected judges with political agendas.
Marriage – There is only one definition of marriage: the union of a man and a woman to form a stable environment to have children, and there are alternative interpersonal relationships.
Homeland Security – Over ten fighters (four this past week alone) for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have been apprehended trying to enter the U.S. at the southern border.
Freedom - “The strength of our economy allows us to maintain the mightiest military in the world effectively enforcing a Pax Americana.” Ted Cruz.
Defense - Our Defense planning documents (QDR, DSG, SCMR) reflect the fiscal and political pressures confronting the military not rational, threat-based defense planning.
GWOT – Obama focuses on individual countries, not acknowledging they are separate fronts (Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Nigeria, Mali, Somalia, etc) part of a global Islamic conquest strategy.
GWOT - U.S. forces have bombed or invaded 14 countries since 1980: Iran (1980, 1987-1988), Libya (1981, 1986, 1989, 2011), Lebanon (1983), Kuwait (1991), Iraq (1991-2011, 2014), Somalia (1992-1993, 2007), Bosnia (1995), Saudi Arabia (1991, 1996), Afghanistan (1998, 2001), Sudan (1998), Kosovo (1999), Yemen (2000, 2002), Pakistan (2004) and now Syria (2014).
GWOT - In 2004, there were 21 Islamic terrorist groups in 18 countries; now there are 41 Islamic terrorist groups in 24 countries, according to the Defense Intelligence Agency.
Military – Readiness continues to decline across the services due to funding shortages for training and maintenance: 80% of Army units at lower readiness levels and 60% of Marines.
Military – As feared, the military has already created “gender diversity metrics” (aka quotas) for combat positions to replace high performing personnel with “lower but equal” people.
Middle East – Obama is not serious about his “war on ISIS,” since he can’t define who is the enemy, has no achievable objectives, no measures of success, and no completion criteria.
Middle East - The “Arab Coalition” of Jordon, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and UAE are a farce, with the first three offering moral support and only UAE participated militarily ONCE!
