  Musings on the Week

November 22, 2014

Federalism - The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny. James Madison.

Politics – It is clear what Barack Obama meant by “fundamentally transforming” the nation: into a plantation of government dependent people who dependably vote for Democrats.

Politics – Obama is now lying about his lies, claiming that he doesn’t know Jonathan Gruber despite quoting him by name when selling, and lying, about ObamaCare and its “benefits.”

Politics – Obama is breaking new ground in the expansion of executive authority, expanding his legal implementation authority into unilaterally legislating new laws and regulations.

Politics – Impeachment is an inappropriate response to Presidential hubris, but a censure resolution would put Congress on record opposing unconstitutional Presidential law-making.

Politics – With both houses of Congress under Republican leadership, both of Obama’s signature accomplishments, ObamaCare and Dodd-Frank laws, may soon be repealed.

Scandal – The emerging scandal is the DoJ / FDIC investigation of “Operation Chokepoint:” political targeting of 30 industries that the administration has philosophical disagreements.

Politics - This week’s distractions from the stagnant economy and ObamaCare: more climate change hysteria and a possible nuclear development deal with Iran.

Politics If Presidents can decide which laws they choose to enforce by Executive Orders then future Presidents can choose to repeal any and all Executive Orders of predecessors.

Politics Only fifteen Governors, including ten of the newly elected ones, spent a significant chunk of their professional lives in the private sector and managing dozens of employees.

Media – The ObamaCare website recruited people to post thousands of comments each, creating the false appearance of mass support, a variant of the astroturfing strategy.

Media – The Mainstream Media is the home of “low information voterswho are spoon-fed only stories that support the political agenda, and include only facts that support their case.

Federalism -The operations of the federal government will be most extensive and important in times of war and danger; those of the State governments, in times of peace and security.” James Madison.

Healthcare – The real impact of ObamaCare is that millions” of people signed up for health insurance, but there is no measure to what extent they actually received health care.

Healthcare – The only thing bipartisan about ObamaCare was the opposition: 34 House Democrats joined all the House Republicans to vote against it.

Environment – Looming EPA ozone regulation proposals are based on junk science, ignores contrary studies, proposes dubious new pollution standards and delivers no pollution impact.

Environment – The administration pledged $3 billion for a multi-billion-dollar UN Green Climate Fund to redistribute wealth from developed countries to developing countries.

Education – All American children do not need a college education, but every kid needs a skill, thus endorsing that which can be learned from trade schools and apprenticeships.

Marriage – Christian priests and ministers are beginning to refuse to perform civil marriages, disengaging civil from Christian marriage, because civil definition deviates with religious.

Civil Rights – The Walk Free Foundation discovered there are 35.8 million people in bondage in 167 countries, with ten countries accounting for 71% of the world’s slaves.

Civil Rights – The Obama administration ferments “America is a racist country” in Ferguson, MO with FBI creating racial animus and DOJ Racial Relations Service “agitating for peace.”

Crime – Apparently if you sexually assault or attempt rape of someone, it is OK if you are a Democrat President, but Not OK if a successful comedian who disagrees with Democrats.

Immigration – The influx of illegal immigrants will harm the wages of blue-collar Americans” and “put strains on an already overburdened safety net” written by Barack Obama in 2006.

Immigration – The election defeat was based in part on rejection of amnesty for Illegal aliens and Obama has been revealed as a serial liar, so his amnesty justification must be suspect.

Immigration – This country is a melting pot of immigrants because almost all speak the same language and are conversant with the same history, heroes, culture, literature, and faiths.

Immigration – It is time to legally close the “anchor baby” loophole in the 14th Amendment, by requiring at least one parent to be a United States citizen before a baby is a citizen.

Federalism -The operations of the federal government will be most extensive and important in times of war and danger; those of the State governments, in times of peace and security.” James Madison.

GWOT – Four Sunni groups were responsible for 66% of all terror fatalities in 2013: Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan; al-Qaeda and its affiliates; ISIS in Iraq; and Boko Haram in Nigeria.

Defense – The Obama administration has unilaterally degraded U.S. nuclear capacity and ignored numerous Russian violations of the existing nuclear weapons treaties.

Middle East – Unintended consequence of Obama’s nebulous Middle East strategy caused ISIS and al-Qaeda to join forces in Syria, eroding trust in the U.S. as a dependable partner.
