Musings on the Week
Musings on the Week
December 13, 2014
Triumph - “Tyranny, like Hell, is not easily conquered. Yet we have the consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.” Thomas Paine.
Politics – After six years, the American people know that the President lies and almost never speaks with candor, so most Americans tune Obama out and discount whatever he says.
Politics – Every time the administration announces some economic headline results, the numbers have diverged from the reality that families both rich and poor are experiencing.
Politics – It is ironic that Jonathon Gruber helped design ObamaCare and was captured on tape crowing about its design and intent, but before Congress he blames a faulty memory.
Politics - This week’s distractions from the stagnant economy and ObamaCare: the collapsing fraternity rape charges at UVA and the partisan Senate Interrogation Report.
Government - “Society in every state is a blessing. But government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one….society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness.” Thomas Paine.
Housing – Thank God for my Westchester County fighting against the un-Constitutional HUD program to impose federal zoning standards on local communities across the country.
Housing – Like zombies who refuse to die, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac plan to once again back mortgages with down payments as low as 3%, increasing risks of default.
Energy – Despite everything the Obama administration has done to impede the exploitation of fossil fuels, the laws of supply and demand have driven the price of oil downward.
Environment – Almost all claims in the global warming show (both pro and con) are disputed, usually due to data timeframes selected, data sources included, or forecasted impact.
Environment – Obama announced a deal with China to limit carbon emissions that was rejected by China due to unattainable measurable and enforceable reduction targets.
Healthcare – Four years after passage, ObamaCare has managed to cover only one in four previously uninsured people, spending over $57 billion to do it.
Healthcare – Progressives are convinced that ObamaCare has been a huge success and just needs to be rebranded to erase the stigma of startup problems… “Healthy but Stupid?”
Immigration – Illegal aliens holding jobs in the United States outnumber citizens who are not in management, professional, or related occupations as well as all employed who are 25 and older and who do not have a college degree.
Taxes – According to the inspector general, the IRS paid out $63 billion in EITC benefits in 2013 with 24% given improperly to people not qualified to receive it, and the IRS also paid out $26.6 billion in ACTC credits with between 25.2% and 30.5% given improperly.
Welfare – After France, America is the world’s second-biggest social spender including things like old-age assistance, unemployment insurance, disability payments, and healthcare.
Welfare – The majority of social programs are never rigorously assessed for effectiveness, because when measured the overwhelming majority are found to be ineffective.
Justice – The DOJ Community Relations Service has been sent, first in Florida and now in Missouri, to indoctrinate locals on racial injustice, agitate for action, then influence activities.
Crime – Eric Garner was not strangled and suffocation was not even listed as the cause of death, but this does not deter the racial narrative nor stop the “I Can’t Breath” T-shirts.
Gun Control – American opinions on gun control are changing with 52% now saying that protecting gun ownership rights was more important than restricting ownership.
Service - “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” Thomas Paine.
GWOT – Between 2001 and 2012, there were 20,022 Islamic terror attacks worldwide, which translates to 1,800 Islamic terror attacks every year or one attack every five hours.
GWOT – Obama continues to free “high risk” jihadists from Guantanamo prison with skills that make them highly useful to terrorists worldwide to rejoin the global jihad.
GWOT – The Senate Intelligence Committee Report on CIA interrogations was revealed as partisan when the “minority” report was released criticizing the report data sources and highlighting contradictions in the report’s conclusions and recommendations.
