Musings on the Week
Musings on the Week
December 21, 2013
Leadership – “Arrogance, ignorance, and incompetence. Not a pretty cocktail of personality traits in the best of situations. No sirree. Not a pretty cocktail in an office-mate and not a pretty cocktail in a head of state. In fact, in a leader, it's a lethal cocktail.” Graydon Carter.
Politics – Liberal’s answer to every problem is to spend more money but in hard times incapable of prioritizing and cutting anywhere for fiscal affordability or political sustainability.
Politics – Congress is the media’s least popular and the most effective protecting the American people from further damage to our national culture and political systems.
Politics – Republicans must expose Obama as governing by arbitrary Executive Orders, which can be quickly implemented, but can also be quickly repealed by the next President.
Politics – There are so many unresolved Obama administration scandals that Congressman Issa can not investigate all of them adequately, so the administration obstructs ever more.
Politics – The House of Representatives has power over funding, Republicans have been in control of the House the last 20 years, but the burden of government has continued to grow.
Politics – Every major city which is a center of poverty is run by Democrats whose policies have failed and refuse to admit that the poor are suffering from their bad government.
Politics – Democrats lost their War on Poverty as they increase the number of dependent people, while Republicans focus on providing paths to exit poverty to become independent.
Politics – Much like Obama, Hillary Clinton’s record can be characterized as one of office occupation, not achievement, occupying significant jobs with no achievements to show.
Politics – The American people are getting sick and tired of their government acting like their mother, dictating what they eat and drink, how they behave and how they spend their time.
Politics – Gallup reports that 72% of Americans see big government, not big business or big labor, as the biggest threat to the nation’s future, the highest most since 1965.
Politics – This week’s distractions from the stagnant economy and ObamaCare: more income inequality class warfare and another failed Israeli-Palestinian peace proposal.
Media – It is sad how long it took the MSM to wake up and finally have second thoughts on Obama who they helped elect with no vetting, no experience, and high expectations.
Media – As new technologies emerge, I expect Twitter will go the way of telephone party
lines doomed by personal privacy issues and a lack of any viable business case.
Politics – “The Tea Party represents stakeholders in the American system; people who were never involved in politics or thought they had to be, yet realized that political corruption and incompetence threatened not only their families, but the future of the nation itself.” Tammy Bruce.
Economy – Under the “best” years of President Obama, we are just now seeing the same levels of unemployment we saw under the “worst” years under President George W. Bush.
Finance – One hundred years ago, the Federal Reserve System was created to prevent bank panics, keep currency stable and to moderate inflation, and it has not been successful.
Income – Income inequality is about income differences which is healthy and good, while income inequities refers to a lack of fairness which has only been asserted, never proven.
Healthcare – Insurance companies are being “strongly encouraged” to extend deadlines, accept late payments, pay for some out-of-network doctors and out of plan prescriptions.
Healthcare – It is a little known fact that Medicaid fine print says if you are over 55 and on Medicaid, when you die the state can seize your assets in an effort to repay the cost of care.
Healthcare – The American Cancer Institute just published a report acknowledging that there is no increased risk of heart disease or lung cancer from secondhand smoke.
Healthcare – Social Security took 70 years to morph into an insolvent Ponzi scheme; the War on Poverty took 40 years to be lost; and now ObamaCare has failed before getting started!
Social Security – Since 1937, there have been 11 years in which benefits paid out exceeded income, when the assets of the accounting “Trust Funds” had to spent for current benefits.
Tolerance – Liberals demand they everyone tolerate everyone else’s beliefs, but liberals tolerate no disagreement, like A&E suspending Phil Robertson for voicing Christian beliefs.
Marriage – Since the Supreme Court struck down the definition of marriage as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife,” other definitions are offered.
Debt – I expect that the country’s credit rating will be downgraded again when debt ceiling negotiations fail to cut spending enough to halt deficit spending.
Deficit – I expect one or more states to declare bankruptcy and seek assistance to recover from the bad economic decisions of the past under federal judicial protection.
Housing – I expect that it will take four or more years at the current rate for the backlog of foreclosures to finally clear, before we see any signs of life of a robust housing recovery.
Security – “The only foes that threaten America are the enemies at home, and these are ignorance, superstition and incompetence.” Elbert Hubbard.
Defense – Even after huge budget cuts, the Navy is required to buy biofuels, instead of less expensive diesel, wasting funds but delivering no increase in military capability or security.
Trade – Unlike previous trade agreements, the Obama Trans-Pacific Partnership, developed in secret, includes 24 out of 29 chapters on non-trade issues and global governance.
Iran – Iranian negotiators have abruptly ended nuclear talks after Obama announced new sanctions and Iran claimed they nullify the recently reached Geneva interim deal.
Israel – I expect that Israel will be attacked by Hamas and the IDF will retaliate by invading and then re-annexing Gaza based on defensible borders and 1920 San Remo Conference.
Israel – I expect that Israel will suffer a nuclear attack from Islamist extremists, and Obama will talk a lot, but stand aside and refuse to help defend this longtime ally.
Asia – I expect that North Korea will attack South Korea and attempt to reunite Korea, and Obama will be “unable” to support our troops and will negotiate for a stalemate.
