Having suffered for decades the preening and hectoring of self-righteous Democrats while activist judges have run roughshod over our constitutional rights, it is such a pleasure to observe liberal outrage as they refuse to accept an America that rejects what they have to offer.  America has seen liberalism, America has experienced liberalism, and America is increasingly rejecting what has amounted to six decades of court-facilitated activism, socialist drift, and leftist disparagement of the uniqueness of our representative form of government.  Why should the Court be able to order abortion on demand when the legislative branch of our tripartite government lacks the will or courage to so legislate?  Why should the Court be able to redefine the Western definition of marriage as between a man and a woman when Congress has passed no such law?  Why should a court be able to challenge the authority of a president in regard to national security when such authority has been duly designated by Congress to the Executive?  Why should an unelected federal judge presiding over a limited district be allowed to overturn nationally the executive order of a president elected by the people?  How can a federal judge overrule the revocation by one president of an unconstitutional executive order written by a former president?  Finally, why is our Supreme Court allowed to delegate to itself judicial authority not explicitly found in the United States Constitution?  Our increasingly originalist Supreme Court will make decisions in the knowledge that such decisions are made through the application of laws passed by the Legislative Branch of the U.S. government and principles established by our Constitution rather than according to the political preferences of justices with lifetime appointments.  If citizens or their representatives in the Congress disapprove of Supreme Court decisions, let the citizens cast their votes for representatives willing to change law, or let Congress amend the laws on which such decisions are based.  No longer should cowardly legislators be allowed to achieve their goals while hiding behind decisions made by activist judges.  An originalist court will force legislators to go on record with their votes if they desire to amend the legislative basis on which court decisions are made.  The Trump presidency has saved America as envisioned by its founders and protected by its Constitution.  Had Hillary Clinton with a Democrat Senate packed federal courts with jurists after the pattern of a Ruth Bader Ginsburg (as did Obama), a successful, secure, and free America would have been irretrievably lost.  America is still America, and America remains, as Ben Franklin is supposed to have said, "a Republic, if you can keep it."  There exists a far greater chance that America can indeed keep its republic since the election of Donald J. Trump.

This has been the year of the national anthem.  Lengthy debates were held over whether the third verse of “The Star-Spangled Banner” was racist, most of them conducted by people who had not previously been aware that “The Star-Spangled Banner” had a third verse.  One faction decided that in a country whose Bill of Rights guarantees freedom of expression refusing to stand during the national anthem was a near cousin to treason. Another argued that kneeling was extremely patriotic and yet, somehow, also an excellent form of protest against American society.  A third suggested that perhaps we should just stop playing the national anthem at sporting events.  “Nationalism” has become a dirty word in the modern era, having become inextricably associated with repression of minorities and imperialist ambition.  We’ve forgotten that the nationalists actually did start out in the 19th century with a worthy and difficult project: persuading a large group of people to think of themselves as a single unit.  Just how much we take them for granted is reflected on the left, which utters harsh words for nationalism while also constantly engaging in nationalist projects.  A welfare state is a fundamentally nationalistic enterprise, and it is frequently justified on those terms: invidious comparisons to the allegedly superior amenities offered by rival states; claims about obligations to fellow Americans that would be nonsensical without an important, and binding, national identity.  There’s good reason that “nationalism” ultimately became a dirty word; the quest for a strong national state sometimes resulted in internal purges of minorities and in external conquest.  Thus the appeal of a cosmopolitan, denationalized political ethos that reified the individual over the group.  Nationalism channeled that groupish instinct into the nation-state.  It’s understandable that so many people rejected any hint of nationalism in the aftermath of World War II.  The current political moment illustrates the limits of that approach: The groupish instinct has not gone away, and neither has it leveled up into a mass identification with all humanity.  Instead, it has leveled down, into a global outbreak of populist particularism.  That particularism is threatening to tear the United States apart as rival tribes lose the ability to do anything, however trivial, together.  If we are to fight our way back from this soft civil war, we’ll need a muscular patriotism that focuses us on our commonalities instead of our differences.  Such a patriotism must include the flag, and the anthem, and all the other common symbols that are light on politics or military fetishism and heavy on symbolism.  We need constant reminders that we are groupish, and that our group consists of 328 million fellow Americans with whom we share a country and a creed, a song and a flag, and the deep sense of mutual obligation that all these things imply.

(“The Nationalism that America Needs Now” by Megan McArdle dated July 7, 2018 published by New York Post at https://nypost.com/2018/07/06/the-nationalism-america-needs-now/ )

The citizenry of a nation that has experienced unprecedented peace, prosperity and global or regional hegemony over four or more generations are often lulled to sleep believing there will never be an end to their good fortune.   Inevitably these countries and empires have floundered and decayed as they gradually and unwittingly descended into societal, political and economic chaos invariably precipitated by their respective ruling classes.  Over the past fifty years, the United States has been adrift on this same calamitous course.   However, it appears that America may have been granted a reprieve through an event that could have been a long-term disaster potentially turning out to be its salvation.  That event was the presidency of Barack Obama and the ensuing hubris of his fellow-travelers in the American Left.  Over the past 55 years, no one has been able to halt the spread of left-wing radicalism in the nation’s institutions and culture as well as the exponential growth of government with its tentacles increasingly intertwined in the day-to-day lives of all Americans.   As long as the people remained largely disengaged the potential damage to society as a whole and to the financial health of the country was ignored by the vast majority of the population.  Since 2012 this indifference has begun to change as the reality of the nation’s future and the motives and tactics of those in the American Left has come into focus.  That reality resulted from the aggressive pursuit of extremist policies in the cultural and economic arenas by the Obama administration combined with the exposure of left-wing domination in the Democrat Party brought about by the unexpected and nearly successful candidacy of Bernie Sanders in 2016.  Nonetheless, had the Democrat Party hierarchy and Obama not been adamant in nominating the worst campaigner and most unlikeable presidential candidate in modern American history, Hillary Clinton, the stealth takeover of the nation would have continued apace.  Trump’s high negatives and the fact that he beat Hillary by an aggregate of only 70,000 votes in the key states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin reveals that Hillary was, in all likelihood, the only nominee he could defeat.  However, Obama and his minions in the Party were unwavering in their decision to actively support only Hillary Clinton and all her baggage, while viewing Bernie Sanders as a foil.  Buoyed by unquestioned belief in Obama’s fabricated popularity coupled with the assumption that the nation had accepted the basic tenets of their version of democratic-socialism, this cabal was so certain of victory that the prospect of Hillary losing to Trump or any Republican was inconceivable.  This overconfident mindset was the culmination of a unique set of events and circumstances beginning in the 1960’s, as the strategy of gradualism utilized during the first six decades of the Twentieth Century by the comparatively more moderate Progressives of that era was discarded in favor of more immediate and assertive tactics.  In the 1960’s the increasingly radicalized American Left began to aggressively infiltrate the mainstream media, the entertainment complex, the education establishment and government bureaucracies.  Due primarily to the fecklessness of the opposition party and ambivalence of the populace, by the early-1990’s the left succeeded in dominating these sectors of the American ruling establishment and the transformation of the culture and society commenced in earnest.  However, the strategic lynchpin of the overall strategy was the seizure of near absolute control of the Democrat Party while the indoctrination of a majority of the populace with anti-American and pro-socialist dogma continued apace.  Surprisingly, the goal of Democrat Party domination was achieved much sooner than anticipated.  With the election of an acolyte of left-wing indoctrination, Barack Obama, and the unabashed exploitation of his skin color and unspoken fealty to socialist-Marxist dogma, the left was in de facto control of the Democrat Party by 2012 and more emboldened in their determination to shut down speech and dissent while aggressively promoting radical cultural changes.   Nonetheless, the American Left has had less than thirty years and only one generation to fully indoctrinate with their failed and self-serving philosophy.  By the end of the Obama presidency 36% of the electorate still identified themselves as conservative (39% in 2000) while 25% self-identified as liberal (21% in 2000) and 34% as moderate (36% in 2000).  Additionally, 37% of those claiming to be moderate identified their views as leaning conservative while just 23% as leaning liberal.  Thus, only 33% of Americans currently identify with or believe in current Progressive ideology despite 8 years of the Obama presidency and the left’s ongoing domination of the media, entertainment and education establishments.  While the timing may have been in place to have the first African-American elected President, the timing to turn the United States into a bastion of socialism was not.  The radicalization of the nation’s cultural and religious institutions by the left and the attempt to create a preponderant dependent class has not been in place long enough to change the essential character of a clear majority of the population.  However, Obama and the Democrat Party hierarchy chose to be oblivious to this reality and governed as if a majority of Americans were, in fact, sympathetic to their unique oligarchical iteration of socialism.  The Barack Obama presidency coupled with the overt left-wing take-over of the Democrat Party occurred too early in the history of the nation for the left to fully achieve their objectives.  While needing to do a better job of keeping their ideological bent in the shadows, Obama and his fellow-travelers should have been less obvious in their take-over of the Party and unquestioned support of an unelectable nominee in 2016 in order to control the Senate and the White House for at least another decade.  A decade which would have assured an irretrievably left-wing and all-powerful Judiciary, the near elimination of 1st, 2nd  and 4th Amendment rights, a stagnant economy manipulated by Progressives in Washington D.C., open borders in order to manipulate the composition of the voting citizenry, ensuring the left retained power in perpetuity, with religious and economic freedom limited to what the federal government bureaucrats declare as acceptable.  Fortunately for America, the conjoined hubris of the Democrat Party hierarchy, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton combined with the socialist absolutism of Bernie Sanders, opened the door for the left to unabashedly come out of the closet during the 2016 campaign.  Thus, offering a clear and unambiguous contrast between the Republican and Democratic Parties and their nominees.  Donald Trump and Ted Cruz were the only Republican presidential candidates out of a field of 14 to clearly and instinctively see the reality on the ground and the political opening obliviously provided by the Democrats.  By waging a scorched earth campaign strategy, Trump won not only the nomination but ultimately the Presidency.   The resultant dismay and disbelief of the Ruling Elites and the Democrat Party hierarchy further exposed the unhinged radicalism of the left.  Panic has set in on the American Left with Trump in the White House and the Republicans in control of both houses of Congress, as the realization sets in that the likelihood of the Progressives achieving their overarching socialist utopian dream may well be gone with the wind.   However, the specter of not only losing their illusory political supremacy but to do so to someone they view as a reprobate in the White House has so inflamed their passion that their threadbare tactics of fear and intimidation have given way to an unhinged and unabashed public unveiling of their fascist tendencies and their unconstitutional and potentially violent methodology of transforming the United States.  What these permanent adolescents and their megalomaniacal leadership fail to understand is that they, due to their hubris, obliviousness and single-mindedness, are responsible for the circumstances that eventuated with Donald Trump as President and the Republicans in control of Congress.  The opportunity to dramatically reverse the course the nation was previously sailing with the Progressives at the helm is now within the realm of possibility.   To the surprise of many skeptics, Donald Trump thus far has pursued a primarily conservative agenda with a few exceptions such as spending and his random bombastic governing style in domestic and foreign affairs.  The elimination of vast swaths of regulations, appointment of constitutionalists to the Judiciary including the Supreme Court, as well as tax reform and immigration enforcement, are foundational pieces of this vital course correction.  Trump and the rest of the Republican Party and a majority of the citizenry must continue to seize the moment and maintain the momentum in the upcoming 2018 mid-term elections.

(“Did Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders Save America?” by Steve McCann dated July 9, 2018 published by American Thinker at https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/07/did_barack_obama_hillary_clinton_and_bernie_sanders_save_america.html )

The left of today are the founders of a new religion called selectivity.  Every aspect of the left's current extreme ideology involves being selective: selective outrage, selective morality, selective media reporting, selective justice and selective "facts," all have become the "go to" weapons of the radical left.  Every member of this leftist religious sect must take a solemn vow to always be selective when it comes to reporting on any kind of news, evidence or facts.  All must be willing to advance the left's radical agenda through any means necessary.  Each member must learn to subscribe to double standards.  Many of these cult members must learn to feign selective outrage on cue and even manufacture a crisis when necessary to aide their cause.  Sadly, the truth no longer matters to the modern day left.  Their whole existence has basically boiled down to advancing a radical Marxist agenda, no matter what kind of damage it ultimately causes, even if it means tearing down the country, dividing the citizenry and destroying Western Civilization.  To the left, their nefarious ends will always justify their illogical means.  Barack Obama ushered in the age of illogic, pushing forth a socialist agenda which received very little pushback from the selectively reporting news media.  Each scandal of the Obama administration was either completely ignored or seemed to just magically disappear within a very short period of time.  We have been given mountains of evidence regarding Obama's past systemic deep state corruption.  Evidence has come to light over the last eighteen months, yet the mainstream media conveniently chooses to ignore this evidence of lawless corruption and just acts as if it never took place.  The liberal media much rather concentrate their efforts on perpetuating a bunch of endless false narratives that always seem to portray President Trump in a negative light.  Most in the liberal media continue to paint Trump and anybody within his administration with a broad brush as racist, xenophobic, misogynistic and or basically some form of the devil.  Always highlighting the bad news while conveniently ignoring everything positive Trump is doing.  The good news is most of this propaganda and selectivity by the left is now backfiring. Many voters the Democrats once considered safely theirs are starting to shift away from the Democrat Party in droves.  The socialism the left has mostly downplayed is coming out of the closet for all eyes to see.  Many people are finally coming to realize the Democrats are offering them no solutions.  The Democrats’ program, which consists of hating Trump 24/7, is now starting to cause many people to re-examine their own conscience and views, and an awakening is taking place.  This awakening is becoming a very dangerous thing for the Democrats, as most sane people are now experiencing a rehabilitation of conscience.  We as a nation are slowly but surely waking up from our stupor of willful ignorance. Most of us are on the road to recovery.  Trump is causing people to think about and reconsider where the left's leadership has taken us in the past, and where they wish to bring us in the future.  Logic is making a comeback and critical thinking is returning to a citizenry which was once in a deep slumber.  A booming economy and a president who is willing to put his country first is winning over the hearts, minds and souls of millions of people in this country.  The left will continue to be selective when it comes to just about everything.  It is up to Trump and the rest of us to continue to point out the left's ridiculous double standards. Rational people eventually figure it all out. The truth is something very powerful, and when allowed to flow freely, the truth eventually shines its light upon everything we need to see, and not just what those on the left wish us to see.
