The one positive thing I can say about the President’s amnesty speech is that I didn’t lose any respect for him afterwards, because losing respect for Barack Obama is a mathematical impossibility at this point.  An empty man in an empty hall spoke empty words to a nation that no longer believes him.  Only rank partisans, drooling drones, and the progressive media revere Barack Obama anymore.  We are watching the tumbling of an empty suit in a dryer.  On a temporary basis, the man who sees himself as king waived his magic pen over the illegal masses and granted them the ability to compete with millions of unemployed Americans for very few jobs.  The President didn’t concern himself with the millions he’s failed economically; he appealed to hearts, not heads.  After six years of not acting, five of which he didn’t even try, the time to “act” was “now! Loaded with sob stories, the speech and the spin after attempted to make our feelings overwhelm our brains.  Unfortunately for Obama and the Democrats, tales of families being “ripped apart” because their child was born here while they are illegal are meaningless.  If they love their kid they wouldn’t leave them behind.  There isn’t enough money in the world to make me care about the “plight” of Astrid Silva, the human prop he used in his speech.  This isn’t about sad tales of woe; this is about national sovereignty and the law.  The masses who stream across our border and overwhelm our hospitals, schools and social services don’t face any screening at all.  The “honor system” background check the President used his magic pen to create this week won’t change that.  The era of Barack Obama is over. All he can do is waive his magic pen around and sign executive orders, but the thing about executive orders is they can be undone by executive order.  We will spend decades digging out from under the crushing failure of these eight years, but we will unbury ourselves.

The most important effect of the revelations of the Administration’s flunkies’ history of cheesy lies about ObamaCare is that liberals must now answer one threshold question before discussing the substance of any new socialist scheme: Why should we trust anything liberals say about anything?  Grubergate is just one of the score of scandals, frauds, and failures that have destroyed any trust in this collection of creeps by anyone except the most leftist and the most stupid.  IRS oppression; Executive amnesty; VA death lists; The Benghazi filmmaker frenzy; You’d think that statistically this Administration would have to act honestly and/or competently sometime.  The liberals are fuming, infuriated that Jonathan Gruber let the cat out of the bag; Then let out another; And another; In fact, he dumped out a whole bag of cats as new media detectives released fresh clips daily depicting his smarmy confessions that he thinks the people who fell for ObamaCare are drooling idiots.  The liberals in the mainstream media ran through the first four of the five stages of grief in record time:

·    Stage One – Denial: Gruber who? Never heard of the guy I said was key to the whole ObamaCare idea.

·    Stage Two – Anger: This is an outrage, citing the statements of a guy we spent years touting as an expert on ObamaCare who says it was all a giant scam!

·    Stage Three – Bargaining: Well, Mitt Romney hired him too so it’s not so bad.

·    Stage Four – Depression: How can we ever hope to trick, I mean ‘convince,’ the American people to trust us enough about made-up crises to ever again transfer massive amounts of money and power to us liberals and the institutions we control?

·    Stage Five – Acceptance: The liberals will probably never reach this stage.  They face the huge hurdle the next time they gin up some bogus problem that demands a solution that requires they be given more money and power.  That hurdle is the fact that we conservatives are never going to let anyone forget how they “Grubered” America.

The climate change scam?  They’ll Gruber at us that it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened, even worse than the ice age they were predicting back in the 70s if we didn’t give liberals more money and power.  The fact that global warming does not seem to involve any warming was already presenting a problem for the slobbering fetishists of the climate panic. People will respond, “Don’t Gruber me, bro.  It’s kind of hard to build up a lot of trust for your next big idea when you excuse lying about your last big idea because it was so darn important.  This whole green energy thing totally won’t cost you more for electricity, limit your freedom, or enrich our liberal billionaire donors. Cross my heart, now excuse me, I gotta catch a chartered jet to Gstaad for a conference on the importance of taking away your cars.  Similarly, those pushing “net neutrality,” allowing the government new and unprecedented power to regulate the web, have to contend with the annoying threshold question of why any sane person would ever allow this Administration to dig its claws into that final bastion of unregulated freedom.  As a lawyer, I have to assess the notion that I’m stupid for not wanting to empower people who think I’m stupid as an unconvincing argument.  You truly can’t fool all of the people all of the time, and thanks to Gruber, the time of trusting liberals is drawing to a close.  Look, we conservatives always knew these clowns were pushing Marxy snake oil on a gullible electorate. Now, the truth is impossible to hide, because it’s right there on video, and it’s Gruberiffic.

The leftist lives in eternal revolt and permanent rage against the injustices, real or perceived, of the world around him, but any rectification of injustices is never enough.  He must be continually on the move, inventing new or resurrecting old injustices because he is inherently and irrevocably anarchical, but the new world order he seeks never actually arrives.  He doesn’t know what fundamental transformation actually looks like, since it’s never existed in reality.  For him, the current order is irretrievably and eternally flawed and without remedy; so he must destroy it.  He must at all costs keep the fires burning.  In the leftist spirit of never letting a crisis go to waste, the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri is kept on the front burner, and the fire is stoked even hotter because unrest is a given in leftist ideology.  Stoking racial unrest is a particularly favorite tactic of the Left, as it evokes memories of the most significant battles against racism were fought in the 50’s and 60’s, when many of today’s prominent liberals were very young.  Perennially unhappy with peace and blind to any improvement of race relations, leftist activists today are still hell-bent on scripting and acting out endless acts that imitate past plays.  Continual evocation of the past makes the Left feel alive.   So they supply the kindling and the match to incidents that would flame out were they not stoked into conflagration by professional race hustlers who take a tragic incident as an indicator that America is still systemically and critically sick with racism.  The appetite for crises is never satiated, as crises are the Left’s means for their aim of radically transforming America into their own image.  In order to continue the transformation the left desires to create more chaos by announcing amnesty for millions near or on the same day the Ferguson incident is ruled on by a grand jury.  Let’s reinforce the chaotic open border policies by rewarding those who have broken the law with instant legalization.  Conflict is considered good because it is necessary to keep the process of fundamental change continually going forward.  That is why the Left fundamentally identifies with terrorists around the world.  Islamists and the Left are in basic alignment with Islamists’ prophetic call for destruction in order to bring in an ideal world.  That is why our left-leaning administration supports terrorism or plays it down.  It is actually empathetic to terrorism, including home grown terrorism that advances socialism, because “fundamental transformation” requires destruction of the old order.  In both cases, Islamism and socialism/communism alike, terror is considered a legitimate policy instrument.  After all, if the manufactured crises were to cease, the leftist rationale for their existence would also cease.  Authoritarianism is always the end game for the Left.  In America, the leftist has found security in bureaucracy empowered by authoritarian leadership from the top.  He finds it in bypassing the tradition institutions he hates and wishes to destroy, and relies instead on appointed lackeys who share his beliefs and who will jump when he says jump.  Bureaucracy is the preferred order that the Left adores as its chief means for continuing the transformation of society.  It is the bureaucracy that eliminates concern for and any input from the masses, which have no voting rights within the bureaucratic jungle.  At the same time, when the time and the crises are aligned perfectly, the leftist will draw on police and military forces that will empower him in ways bureaucracy will not and cannot do.  This is the time for the exercise of congressional authority to rein in executive excess.  Republicans, if they will only unify and stop fighting one another, can diffuse the Democrat Perfect Storm by creating a hurricane of resistance.

The modus operandi of America’s far left is all about taking:  money, property, privacy, speech, guns - you name it.  Everywhere we look, the foundational underpinnings of our once-free, once-prosperous society are being eroded by government’s emboldened totalitarian impulses.  The No. 1 thing they are taking from us is control: over our lives, our livelihoods and our children.  The arc toward totalitarianism has been accompanied by unsustainable government debt, soaring dependency, economic stagnation and the steady decline of individual liberty.  For those in charge, though, it’s meant more money, more power and more patronage.  The left never lets a crisis go to waste, especially if that crisis involves guns.  In Connecticut, Governor Daniel Malloy wants to require parents who homeschool their children to periodically present them before government panels so their “social and emotional learning needs” can be assessed.  Homeschooling, like other flourishes of the free market, constitutes a clear and present danger to the rising totalitarian state.  To them, it’s an expression of defiance, an explicit rejection of the indoctrination of government-run education.  So the left views anyone who chooses such a path as subversive, and in need of being monitored.  The National Security Agency (NSA) has built a $2 billion data storage facility center in rural Utah, whose purpose is classified, but former NSA executive Thomas Drake says it is being used to monitor our phone records, emails, text messages, web histories and online purchase records.  Environmental radical Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. argued that those of us who believe global warming “does not exist” should be found guilty of “a criminal offense” and ought to be in jail.  Apparently Kennedy believes the researchers at the NASA, whose data has revealed a nearly two-decade “pause” in global warming, should also be thrown in jail.  Perhaps the scientists at the National Snow and Ice Data Center, who recently found a record 7.7 million square miles of sea ice in Antarctica should be locked up.  Government doesn’t need to challenge facts, since contrary thoughts or data that is used to repress, regulate and rob the American people, can simply be criminalized.  This is a dangerous time in the United States right now, so either be careful what you think, or be prepared to suffer the consequences of your free thought.

What too few in Washington appreciate, and what the new Republican Congress must if we hope to succeed, is that the American people’s current distrust of their public institutions is totally justified.”  So wrote Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), “Americans are fed up with Washington, and they have every right to be.”  When Democrats swept the 2006 mid-term elections to re-take control of the U.S. House of Representatives, it was much more a repudiation of the pork-barreling, corrupt crony behavior of that Republican congressional majority than an embrace of the Democrats’ agenda.  The same is true for the thumping voters inflicted on Democrats and Obama just weeks ago, allowing the GOP to capture the Senate and thus control of both chambers.  Obama’s agenda lost far more than a Republican agenda won.  Finding common ground with Democrats to enact a popular agenda that advances freedom isn’t a compromise; It’s called victory; a victory for the people, not just the GOP.  Any attack on crony capitalism will precipitate a political battle royal, as an army of cronies from big business and big labor fight to keep their hooks into the taxpayers.  We must target the crony capitalist policies that rig our economy for large corporations and special interests at the expense of everyone else, especially small and new businesses.  Dissolve the Export-Import Bank and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation; eliminate the taxpayer bailouts for big insurance companies in ObamaCare’s “risk corridors’ program;” and break up taxpayer subsidies for the energy industry or large agribusinesses.  Echoes of Ralph Nader,  with deep free-market rumblings; not with discord, but with harmony and music to my ears.

The executive order, which President Obama has issued, granting amnesty to millions of individuals now residing illegally in our country, should make clear the profound disregard our President has for American voters, our constitution, and our two-party system.  It might be possible to justify this action if it was addressing a national emergency of utmost urgency or clearly reflected the priorities and wishes of the American people, but neither is the case.  In a new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll, 48% expressed opposition to the President acting through executive order on the immigration issue and 38% supported it.  In the same poll, 56% said congress should “take the lead in setting policy for the country” and 33% said President Obama should.  There are differences of opinion whether the President’s action is constitutional, not surprisingly aligned with party affiliation.  There is no poll showing that that the immigration issue sits at the top of concerns of the American people.  In exit polls from the last election reported by the Wall Street Journal, 45% said the economy was their issue of top concern compared to just 14% who gave immigration top priority.  Even among Hispanic voters, according to the Pew Research Hispanic Trends Project, exits polls showed 49% said the economy was the most important issue, compared to just 16% ranking immigration at the top.  Immediately poisoning the well from which both parties must draw water in order to do the nation’s business over the next two years, says something about the importance our President gives to the nation’s business.  The Obama priority is the progressive transformation of America, not the strength, meaning, and integrity of our nation.  The recent elections show that citizens are finally waking up, but it’s going to be a long and bitter two years.

According to recently released data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 5,063 individuals from nations that harbor Islamic terrorists were arrested last year alone trying to cross into America from Mexico.  None of these were Mexicans, Guatemalans, or Hondurans; they were citizens from far-away nations consumed by militant Islam.  These are only the culprits that were caught, and those that have escaped capture and successfully infiltrated the U.S. may now well run into the thousands and constitute numerous sleeper cells waiting to unleash atrocities in our towns and cities in the name of Allah.  The U.S. Transportation Safety Administration recognizes the following nations as either state sponsors of terrorism or as counties of interest.  They include Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and Yemen.  Every one of these states are Muslim with the exception of Nigeria which remains torn in bloody conflict between the Muslim north and the mostly Christian south.  It can be assumed that most of the illegal aliens infiltrating our southern border from the suspect countries are not necessarily terrorists but we know from bitter experience how much horror can be inflicted upon America by just a handful.  It is well known that drug cartels are assisting Islamic terrorists in gaining entrance and crossing the border.  Barack Hussein Obama is continuing his juggernaut drive to fundamentally transform the United States into something like the socialist European model or even down to the level of a Third-World country.  Never has an American President been more contemptuous of the United States or acted in a manner that has revealed itself to be a clear and present danger to America’s very survival.

Liberals think the word Islamism unfairly links radicals or terrorists with religion.  Some on the Left would have you believe that mayhem in Mohamed’s name has nothing to do with Islam, a little like claiming that the Crusades were sponsored by Rotarians.  The thought police at the White House, at CIA, and even at the Associated Press have stricken words like Islamism from their vocabularies by fiat.  The Left traditionally believes that candor, or the action that truth might require, will make a problem worse.  Appeasement is an honored liberal idiom.  The objective of imperial Islam may be monoculture.  Yet, with 1.5 billion followers, realities will always be at odds with utopian dreams.  The Shia/Sunni schism has plagued the Ummah for 1300 years.  To suggest that all Muslims are militant radicals or terrorists is a little like confusing the bulls with the dairy cows.  Arabs, Muslims, and the Islamic Press use words like Islamism, as opposed to Islam, suggests movement and militancy.  You might think of Islamists as Muslim crusaders.  Such distinctions are self-evident when militants are parsed from the so-called “moderate” majority.  That majority in turn are happy to be separated from the swords, shooters, and beards.  Unfortunately, these asserted distinctions do nothing to moderate the menace.  Terms like Islamism and “Islamofascism” fill a void of meaning.  Passive aggressors might be a better description for most of the silent Muslim majority.  Militancy and terror are usually a minority but minorities still prevail.  A kinetic vanguard can always depend on the silence and apathy of majorities.  Militants make no secret of their Islamic motivation. Whatever the number of radicals, they will never be as numerous, or as guilty, as the larger Ummah which is routinely disingenuous, routinely apathetic, routinely absolved, routinely hypocritical, and routinely given a pass on accountability.  Most Americans and Europeans believe that most Muslims are innocents.  Sadly, the great crimes of any century are more a function of apathy and appeasement, and less a product of militancy.  Apathy and denial about the Islamism problem is as much a problem in the West as it is in the East.  A malignant force, once set in motion, tends to stay in motion unless confronted by an equal or superior force.  The real strength of Islamists is the apathy of 57 Muslim nations worldwide, a sixth of the world’s population.  Islamofascism is an Ummah community problem.  The progressive West cannot save the Islamic East from itself.  Calling Islamists criminals, militants, radicals, fundamentalists, or even terrorists might be necessary but not sufficient, because these are half-truths, euphemisms at best. Proselytizers, apologists, and jihadists must also be linked precisely, directly, and routinely to the ideology that motivates them.  Without motive, crime or any barbarity would not be a problem. That culture is Islam!  Culture is the primary culprit midst James Clapper’s “nefarious” characters.  So let’s be clear when we speak of the enemy.  With the Muslim wars, there are probably three relevant semantic distinctions to be made:

·    Islam is the big tent phenomenon, for the most part an apathetic, apologetic, passive, or mostly bovine majority.

·    Islamists are the proselytizing militants or financiers, missionaries, domestic or immigrant activists who believe they act in the name of a “great” religion.

·    Islamofascists are the kinetic Muslims, those who oppress or kill in the name of Mohamed, the Koran, or imperial Islam.

The terms are related, but not necessarily interchangeable.  Islamists claim that their aggression is actually defense, a victim’s posture.  Muslim scholars and clerics have been looking to the past in search of the future for centuries.  ISIS and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi are the logical products of Islamism.  There is no question that imperial Islam will fail, implode or be defeated, but the question is how much masochism, denial, and damage the Ummah and the civilized world will endure before that day arrives.
